Well i wasnt blaming the game in that post. But i will be in this post. Seeing as how before the update everthing worked fine. Even without any mods on at all. I still get crashes/freezes and high cpu usage.Seeing as i have 16gb ram something is messed up. Never had that before. so ya id say thats the games fault. Ive also did eveything they told me to do. Uninstall mods, make sure drivers are up to date, verify game cache. Still same problem. Clearly i am not alone here. many have the same issue. Its also the only game i have any problems with.
If I try to launch the game from Steam directly I get the "running" then "syncing" indicators
and then the launch aborts.
Go to
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Total War WARHAMMER\Warhammer.exe"
Right click "Warhammer.exe" and change its properties to execute as "ADMINISTRATOR"
Right click it again and create a desktop shortcut.
When you want to launch the game CLOSE STEAM COMPLETELY first.
Use the new short cut to launch the game which will auto launch STEAM first. Allow the Game popup window to fully load to include getting the warhammer graphics picture to fill the bottom portion of the popup. In other words wait til the mouse cursor stops spinning. If you don't wait you may find yourself accidently trying to launch two seperate instances of the game. Once you know its settled down then click the "Play" button. Just because play button says your drivers may be out of date does not mean the game will not work. I upgraded my drivers, but still get that message.
Tried on a different rig completely and still doesn't work either.
At this point is there anything we can complain to Steam about? I give up in these developers, really the worst.
I have no idea what I did to finally get it to work. I played hell trying to get this game to launch. I got that "running" message that changes to "synching" for a few seconds. Then nothing.
It would not launch period.
I spent over 12 hours over two days trying everything I could think of. Now part of my problem was in forcing my computer to accept the new updated driver for my particular video card, so that is not the game, or Steam's fault. It also forced me to finally install every single upgrade to Windows 8.1 that I had been putting off. In any case that was the first thing I had to do and the game would still not launch, so even if that was "a" problem; it was only part of the problem.
In the end it finally started working. I'm sure of only one thing. Following the step by step process at this link likely had something to do with my success.

Hopefully it helps others, It should be "PINNED".
At one point I had been thinking my only option was going to be a complete wipe of my hard drive and reinstall of windows.
I wish I could help, but like I said I did so darn many things there is no way for me to narrow down what I did that finally got er working.
I presume you have windows fully upgraded?
I actually had installed my newest graphics driver and it would not work, so I decided to uninstall it and install the previous version of the graphics drivers which was still much newer than the ones I had at first. Its a desperation idea. Best I can do is try and remember the various things I did which included this...
1. Make sure Steam is set to English language
2. RESTART Steam
3. Verify the game cache for Total War Warhammer (through Steam)
4. Repair/reinstall all FIVE of the redistributables (run as administrator)
Total War WARHAMMER\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\DXSETUP.exe
Total War WARHAMMER\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\vcredist_x64.exe
Total War WARHAMMER\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\vcredist_x86.exe
Total War WARHAMMER\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2013\vcredist_x64.exe
Total War WARHAMMER\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2013\vcredist_x86.exe
I also used CCleaner to cleanup my registry.
Last, but not least you will want to check here for information updates on crash issues with the game. https://forums.totalwar.com/categories/crashes

Hi,
I have worked all day to start Warhammer, but it does not react...
I have it on Steam and there flickers a text that says "Total War Warhammer - Running", but it lasts for roughly 0.5 sec. It does not even come up as a process in the task manager. Neither the game nor the laucher. After trying to update Win 7, all versions of "vcredist", all my Nvidia drivers. I have tried each and every tip, explanation etc. that has been given online. What can I do now?

I did it! :) For some reason an error message finally showed up. It seems that however many times I installed the Visual C++ it didn't really finish with all the MSVCP (or something) -files. I sat and spammed the playbutton on Steam and it showed up. It didn't help to install them manualy or automatically, but I found some kind of launcher called "Aio-runtimes" and that fixed it!
Thanks for all the help, I have never used a forum at all before and I am very happy that you endured my angry and tired responses! :D

Some background - like someone else in this thread my HDD failed last night. Bought a new one, installed the OS, updated the OS, installed drivers for everything, installed Steam and download TWW. Before the failed HDD the game worked fine as you can see from many hours playing the game without a single crash.

I did some research and it has to do with something thats needed in the 2005 VC++ redist.
