Do you pause the game and use slow mo?
I've been having trouble with the battles in this game, I feel like autoresolve gets better results than I do. I didn't use pause or slowed down because I thought it was the manly thing to do, the way it's meant to be played and that's what I've seen from Turin, HeirofCarthage, Zerkovich, PartyElite and all of these. Decided to use it and it went pretty well, Is it that they're pros or something or you normal players can manage everything without using any of these?
Because in a 20v20 matchup witth all sorts of units involved it took time to find the right match ups and target them, time that I don't have if speed is running normal, sometimes I even forget to use certain units.

This is my first TW game so maybe it's lack of experience although I already have a 100 hours so I don't know if it's normal that I still suck.

Raising difficulty just buffs enemy units. So it can be a more fun way to raise difficulty by not pausing and leaving the difficulty setting lower than you would if pausing.

I already play it on normal, so I guess there's no buff anyway.

Those youtubers do campaign battles with 20v20 without pausing or slow-mo?
In multiplayer sure, and I doubt many people play 20v20 in MP anyway.

To be fair, I and many others play 20v20 or even the ridiculous 40 v 40 on legendary/VH without slowmo, so its more than doable. That said, in MP, few builds will see 20 units on the field(goblins and skaven are the only factions likely to make the cut with MP funds) and given that the micro requirements on all fronts are generally much higher in MP than in SP, it kinda makes sense.

As for OP, I would largely rack it up to lack of experience, especially if you arent a dedicated RTS player. Once you have a good amount of experience, setting up matchups and managing your frontline basically becomes a breeze, since you can almost do that stuff instinctively, and it leaves you free to deal with more pressing issues. My personal suggestion if youre new is to avoid having more than 5 control groups, and avoid factions that require lots of intense micro like brettonians or wood elves. Most of your micro should be split between cavalry, artillery/shooting(prioritizing their targets), spells/abilities, and making sure your lords/heroes are doing what they need to. Keep in mind that while this may seem like a lot, you usually have something like 30 seconds to a minute before needing to adjust orders for a shooting unit/hero/cast new spells, so that means that the vast majority of your micro can be split between handling emergencies(like sudden breaks in the line) and microing cav/monsters/shock units.

I just use normal speed for the most part. Takes some practice. Using hotkeys, keybindings, and unit groupings helps a lot with control. Try practicing with smaller armies and low money in custom battles. Also keep your eyes on the cards to see how units are doing. In any RTS, you have to get used to looking around the battlefield, and quickly keeping an eye on different units. Takes time to develop that skill. Also, everyone makes mistakes when micro-managing their units, even the best players. So don't obsess over it too much. But with practice, you make less and less mistakes. If you feel better playing in slow motion, then by all means - that's what it's there for. But I think if you play in normal speed, and use the control methods I mentioned above, you'll eventually get used to the speed.

Oh, just pause, nobody's judging you, who cares, it's a feature built into the game, not some hack.

If you need some more encouragement I've 100% seen Heir slow/pause in some of his campaign battles.
