Why upgrade to Pegasus or Griffon.

I have gotten to the point where I can upgrade Karl Franz's horse to a Pegasus.
According to the stats, if I upgrade I lose a large amount of attack and defence, as well as losing magic attack and the Hold The Line. The griffon has an even higher melee attack loss.
Is this is accurate representation of what will happen? And is it really worth losing attack and defence stats for the higher speed and charge bonus?

These are accurate, but that mobility comes as a trade-off. Consider that you're also earning a ton of gear and other attributes throughout; be sure to optimize these.
Also hover all those little icons -- you gain abilities/passives for each option. That Griffon + good weapons + good upgrade choices mean that Karl can directly-rush the enemy artillery or ranged units IMMEDIATELY, or bait & kite cavalry -- or just serve as a true Emperor of War, soloing an entire castle while your entire army is busy busting down walls to get in (slowly, one at a time).
