To "beat" the campaign, you have to fulfill the victory conditions. You can check these by opening up the objectives (I don't remember exactly where these are but it's one of the buttons in the bottom right corner, in the same general area as Diplomacy and the like).
For the Empire, the "Short Victory Conditions" require you to control (directly or indirectly) most of the Imperial regions, including both halves of Sylvania, and to have beaten back the encroaching warriors of Chaos.
Play at your own pace.
Yeah i agree, like i said im really enjoying playing the game i was just wondering if i was doing something wrong when i read people finishing the game in such low turns
Tips:
- Diplomacy can save you a lot of time and money. Try to get as many trade agreements as possible and try to confederate with as many Empire factions as possible.
- Have as many Witch Hunters as possible. Don't use them in combat. Their strengh lays on the campaign map. Assassinate enemy heroes and block enemy armies to catch them.
- Go and raid the Norscan villages on their southern coast from time to time. This prevents some invasions in your backyard.
- Try to get peace treaties with all Bretonian factions (Alliances if possible). This secures your western frontier.
- Vampires: Dont declare war on them until they do. First take care about Chaos and then the vampires. Otherwise you could end on a two frontier war.
- Orcs: same as the Vampires
- Dwarves: Normally friendly to human. Try to get as many Alliances as possible.
- Try to build up your inner Regions first. They are less likely to get raided.
- Build money producing buildings where ever you can. More money means more armies.
That are some basics that worked well for me. Maybe somebody else has good tips, too.
Once again though, I never pay attention to them.
Goes to show that you don't have to mess around when your guys are carrying 8 barrel cannons and gyrocopters with flame throwers in a medieval setting.
I thought I would be hesitant to fight the dwarves as the empire.
Had no hesitation after the first time I did it. if the dwaves or any other faction pisses me off, they get it.
Ok now I think I need to go play as the orcs...
1 having fun
2 owning the entire campaign map. I own all of the territory possible except the smoking remains of western sylvania and the burned desolate wastes of the southern desert area and the mountains. I only considered my campaign complete when everything that was not human was dead, and all humans were united under my banner.
I promptly decided "I WON" and moved on with my life rather than hunt down and exterminate every one of them or spin the assassin wheel for another 50+ turns to try to win
What matters is the fun. :)
As for playing the Empire - I'm no guru at it, but I think a very important aspect to doing well with them is carefully maintaining trustworthines and neighbourly relations. Decide early who you want to war with - I'd suggest Marienburg, their territories are WEALTHY and they're rather hostile. Averland seems hard to keep happy, too, so that's a good choice. Ostmark is a candidate, at least. The rest - make them friendly, make them trade, and ally with them over time.
Also make sure you have good relations with the dwarves. You'll eventually confederate with the other empire factions, and having dwarves to trade and ally with is valuable.
And of course, war with Vampire Counts is unavoidable.
As for the battles.... get a wizard - celestial vs. VC, fire vs. everything, something like that - just not a lot of wizards in one army. (They all draw from the same mana pool, so to speak).
Lastly, I'd suggest not worrying too much about the victory conditions. Mopping up the map isn't that fun, so it's okay to go 'Okay, I can't possibly lose this, new campaign!'.
Hm. I haven't really had that work for me. My allies suddenly go to war on each other, they ask me to honor the alliance and attack the other guy I have at least a NA-pact with, and then whatever I do I get untrustworthy, all alliances get broken off, and things go chaotic fast. Thus I tend to try to ally with only a select few. How do you make allying with everyone work?
