what exactly does control large army do?

Lets you control all 40 units. With it unchecked, you'd control 20 and the ai would control 20 for you

just in case anyone ever reads this, it does not allow the ai to control the other 20 units, they only come out to replace lost units (which makes them mostly useless since they are out of position)

Hmm guess it depends on your computer or other settings. During my last dwarf campaign had two lls corner a big orc army with full stacks all around and got to directly control every single unit on my side. It was a massive dwarf lineup against stupid green skins charging into their lines.
