The axe of grimnir
So this is the first quest you get as the dwarfs (or is it the particular dwarf lord?), however for some reason you quickly reach an impossible point in the quest. It asks you to have 2 gyrocopters of any kind in your lords army. Now this would be fine if this quest was meant for later on the game but this is the first quest you get. Why on earth is it asking for top tier units or am I missing a secret way of getting gyrocopters early in this game?

The quests you get aren't nesscarily to complete early on, just a goal to aim for late game. The battles that come after getting the required units are very hard and if you go in with a single army or 2 weak ones you will most likely get owned. Just let the quests build up and take them on when you can.

Quest are not meant to be done the moment you get them in most cases.

same "issue" here. It feels like they didn't really think about what happens when you give a level 8 hero the quest for top tier units... which is mostly frustration that you're not gonna get it anywhere in the near future :P

It lets you plan ahead early so you can have a settlement that will be capable of building them. There are at least 2 different buildings required to get a lot of top tier units.

Thing is this quest is. I'm at chapter 2 and one of the bonus objectives is to have completed a chain quest. I know your not usually meant to get all the bonus objectives but they are usually within some way obtainable. This one isn't though. I'm going to have 8 settlements waaaaaay before I get a tier 5 city.

They're designed to encourage a style of play not based on land grabs.

Well, i have a problem similar to this problem, and thats actually happened twice to me now. First one is where this quest ask me to win a battle with thorgrim in a specific area, if i win i get the axe of grimnir. Problem is, the enemy is a greenskin army, and ive already killed all greenskin armys and theres no sign for the greenskins bulding a new one also their my vassal state, so i have literally a quest i cant possible achive. This is a bit annoying becasue those blue flames that marks the area really shouldnt be there now. The other problem is the same, just where they want me to bring Ungrim ironfist to another area where hes supposed to fight an army wich belongs to the greenskins, Can someone help, i even have my armys placed on the blue signs. Nothing is happening!!!:csgoskull:

If you order your armies to "attack" the blue signal spots the same way you would a settlement or an opposing army, it should (I would imagine) initiate the necessary battle. It works the same way as the one you get very early in the Dwarf campaign that's the "ambush" in the Underway between Mount Squighorn and Mount Gunbad.

Edit: That said, I have also found the quests for Thorgrim to be pretty obnoxious. Their focus on late game units and, in at least one case, manually walking units to very out-of-the-way locations is a real pain. I still haven't completely finished one, while AI Mannfred is running around with two of his legendary items already.

I've also been annoyed with that quest, especially since for some reason Gyrocopters require a city level 4 Gunsmith, but a city level 5 Engineer's Guild Hall. You literally unlock Gyrocopters at the same time as you do Brimstone Gun Gyrocopters and Gyrobombers. Gyrocopters as a unit are outdated the moment you unlock them because their improved versions are available at the same time.

If you dropped the requirement to unlock Gyrocopters from level 5 Engineer's Guild Hall to the level 4 Engineer's Workshop, that'd still be harder to complete than most other factions early quests, but at least it'd be way better and much easier to rush early if you chose to do so.

So far I've only played on Very Hard, but the hardest 1st quest battle I can think of is Azhag's Crown, or at least that's where the bar showed the battle to be most even when I went in with 1 full stack of mostly mid-tier units.

Also, just a reminder because some people don't seem to know this: You can teleport to all the quest battles, open the quest description in the quests & missions panel and it's one of the buttons on the lower right corner.

I think ive made a major mistake wich might turn my problem upside down! Right now i saw that it was not Ungrim who was supposed to "defend" the area it was Thorgrim, what a "fail". Sorry for wasting anybodys time, and thanks Landwalker04 for making me observant so i could figure it out:steamhappy:

Hooray! I helped.

Ive often done the charachter quests out of order.

The main thing i get annoyed by is the Chapters though, its way too easy to accidentally advance through them rapidly missing bonus objectives because just about everything you can do (capture, loot, raze. federate, recapture your own lost cities) advances the campaign.

Yeah, didn't know that at the time. Walked ALL the way to the south with the Vampire Counts... Lost two thirds of my army due to attrition by the time I got there on foot and had to win by kiting the whole Orc army using regenerating units and Mannfred... And then had to walk all the way back and survive... Fun times!
