Formation grouping/locking

Is there any way to lock a formation of units as the grouping icon doesn't seem to do anything. I haven't played total wars since Shogun 2, but that game definitely had a feature for it.

Set them in a formation of your choosing. MANUALLY.
Then assign them to a group CTRL+(1-9)

Then, press the little LOCK next to the group indicator.
Now this group will move and function in your choosen formation.

Great right? No more preset formations. You can manually set them up now! Good stuff!

Or just select the units and press CTRL G. That will select them into a formation and lock them.

so how does one unassign the number to a group? (ex: i got my infantry on "CTRL + 1" but i want to have them without any number...)
