A few questions re: Mounts.
Is there a tradoff or do these just make my lords better hands down?

Also is there any reason to use earlier mounts once having unlocked their later counterparts?

Lastly is there any point in investing a 2nd point into a mount upgrade (such as a Barded Warhorse)? I suppose this last question does depend a good deal on the 2nd one...

1. No tradeoff that i know of, apart from the skill points spent
2. Don't think so. Just if you really like them.
3. Only if you plan on stopping there. If you plan to upgrade, then no.

1. Depends, if you put Karl on Deathclaw yes, if you put a general on a warhorse maybe
2. No not really
3. I think a barbed warhorse gets more damage on the charge so yes i suppose

Hmmm, I have a question to add to this. I haven't gotten to this part yet but wouldn't different mounts change the traits associated with the leader? For instance the goblin leader can ride a wolf and then later a giant spider. Maybe the giant spider mount grants him the 'strider' trait allowing him to ignore terrain and unit collision?

Just asking because that would be one large way mounts do change leaders or add stats.

Don't know on the strategy map, but in battle, sure. Some mounts give poison attacks, for example.

The only tradeoff that I'm aware of to being mounted is that it makes you a bigger target and switches your vulnerability to anti-large units rather than anti-infantry. It's not a huge deal though because most Lords will still plow clean through spearmen or halberdiers while mounted.

Upgrading a Lord and putting him on a mount does change the type of unit he is seen as in his unit info card at the top. From "Sword Infantry" to "Cavalry" in the case of a normal lord. I haven't progressed to flying mounts yet but they may be classified as "Flying." So, in terms of the rock/paper/scissors aspect of the game; be mindful of what enemy troops are around your possibly mounted Lord(s) because the enemy may be getting a bonus to killing said Lord(s).

i noticed that archeon does less attacks on his horse than on foot. i wish he could ride a chaos dragon.

This sums it up, with the addition that horses can't get up on the city walls.

Oh yeah, that too.

Flying Mounts are indeed classified as flying, although so far I've only seen two effects in the entire game that are geared towards countering them.

From my perspective mounts are a straight upgrade. Prioritizing choosing a mount over other options is going to vary, but mobility is a big deal both in battle and on the campaign map.

My guess is that a barded mount has more armor than the first tier flier (maybe more than the upgraded flier too). I could be wrong about that assumption, but hypothetically there could be instances where being unmounted or on a particular mount might make a difference, but in practice... meh.

remmber as well if you go to the equipment screen for your lord or hero you can have them not use a mount
