Dwarven unit questions? (great weapons)
So yeah just unlocked great weapon versions of regular units (dwarven warriors and quarellers) however looking at their stats it seems they have worse stats than the regular versions and a higher upkeep, only benefit I can see is armour piercing, is there something I am not getting here?

Also Quarellers vs Thunderers? I know different uses but I am assuming that you can't arc shots over units with Thunderers? Direct line of fire? Kind of why I dislike the firearm troops in Total war games, apart from dealing damage to the initial enemy charge they sit behind the rest of your troops twiddling their thumbs or shooting them in the back.

playing as dwarfs too, so far, I've been using the great weapons versions to try to attack from angles, since they do more damage. I use the cheaper version to hold the line since they come with shields and are cheaper obviously. Great weapons don't come with shields.

And yeah, thunderers need to attack from angles. They are expensive and you need to be smart when deploying them.

The range on them quarrellers is stupid good. I don't see why I'd run any other ranged unit since they will chew up the enemy before they're even halfway to your front lines.

Against heavily armored enemies the 2hand version is better then the cheap version. For tanking damage the shield version is better, but the ranged dwarf units are not really ment to hold their line against chaos chosen or black orks, but they can flank them for great results.

Have a nice day

the thunderers are equipted with sword gun and shield. so the first file will melee and the back file will shoot. they have good melee defense.

It's armor piercing. And yes, it does make that much of a difference.
Same applies to Quarrelers vs Thunderers.
Quarrelers will perform better against unarmored targets, while Thunderers will perform significantly better versus armored targets.

The only difference between Warriors with axe and shields and Warriors with great weapons, is equipment. The equipment pretty much dictates the role of the unit. Units equipped with shields are your front line troops. They hold the line.

Units with two handed weapons (Hammerers, Warriors with great weapons, Longbeards with great weapons, even miners) are you damage dealers. They are not meant to hold the line and take the enemy charge (although some of the late game units can take the charge and do fine). These units perform the best when used to flank/counter charge an enemy unit.

Its your typical hammer and anvil tactic. Shield equipped guys are your anvil, two handed weapon units are your hammer. Whatever comes in between them gets turned into hamburger. Also, pro-tip, make sure your shield guys are getting charged and not your great weapons guys, the whole anvil and hammer tactic tends to not work as well when it goes the other way around.

Other than that they are the same unit with the same stats, if/when the stats are different is because of the gear the unit is equiped with.

hope that helps!

Thunderers are great when in wooded areas. I had a battle last night where I lured the enemy infantry right past them as they were hidden in a tree line. The damage to the enemy and it's morale before it could reach my infantry line was devastating. Much more effective at routing oncoming infantry than Quivelers
