And yeah, thunderers need to attack from angles. They are expensive and you need to be smart when deploying them.
Have a nice day
Same applies to Quarrelers vs Thunderers.
Quarrelers will perform better against unarmored targets, while Thunderers will perform significantly better versus armored targets.
Units with two handed weapons (Hammerers, Warriors with great weapons, Longbeards with great weapons, even miners) are you damage dealers. They are not meant to hold the line and take the enemy charge (although some of the late game units can take the charge and do fine). These units perform the best when used to flank/counter charge an enemy unit.
Its your typical hammer and anvil tactic. Shield equipped guys are your anvil, two handed weapon units are your hammer. Whatever comes in between them gets turned into hamburger. Also, pro-tip, make sure your shield guys are getting charged and not your great weapons guys, the whole anvil and hammer tactic tends to not work as well when it goes the other way around.
Other than that they are the same unit with the same stats, if/when the stats are different is because of the gear the unit is equiped with.
hope that helps!
