Lord of the Rings
We have Warhammer, don't you think Lord of the Rings would be a better Total War game?

Yeah you get a point here, don't get me wrong, the books were great but they killed the franchise to a point that it hurt to just talk about it...

LOTR has a lot of good elements to make a rich world setting, but is actually quite limited in terms of playable factions on the scale of a Total War game.

Warhammer releases with 4 factions + 1 DLC faction, and there are more to come. This way, Warhammer has longevity to continue development. On the other hand, LOTR already only has about 4 playable factions, give or take. Any more would just be variations on a theme, at which point the LOTR branding won't be enough to carry the game.
Whatchu talking about 4? Gondor, Rohan, Isengard, Moria, Gundabad, Mordor, Dol Amroth, Beornings, Wood Elves, High Elves, Easterlings, Harad, Dwarves(of all different variations, all of which have different units), Erebor, Arnor. The list goes on. Dont know how the hell you got 4 factions.

There is a super excellent LOTR total mod for Medieval II Total War. Get it. It is very well done and a blast to play.

No. Only the 'elite' units of a LOTR would've been interesting (Ring Wraiths and Shelob). The rest would have been generic orcs and dwarves - all of which are already featured in this title (elves, too, in eventual DLC, no question about it). The addition of Warhammer's Vampire Counts and Chaos factions massively improve over that.

And when they bring in the Lizardmen and Tomb Kings, it'll be such a diversity improvement over a would-be LOTR-based game, you'll be wondering why anyone brought it up in the first place.

And more importantly, much better:
- Better optimized
- Fewer bugs
- WAAAY less lag
- More balanced (DaC aside)
- More up-to-date (they're still being worked on)

The name of the main mod is Third Age Total War, if you're interested.

heh
i think it would make a really excellent dlc addition to this game. so you could see how ring wraiths deal with cannons and slayers ... :D https://youtu.be/cSynMF2tOYI games workshop has licensed model making with lotr, maybe they could do a deal to get it done in this game as a dlc, im sure people would pay 30 to 50 pounds to get full lotr characters/ armies. i know i would giev me those damn elephants and dwarf war chariots!

Did you know that the Hobbit was written in like the 1950's, well before Lord of the Rings? I'm also guessing you didn't know that those were books at all, and I'm also guessing you can't read.

I love LotR, and would buy any LotR RTS, but it would basically be a generic Total War. Orcs & Uruks are functionally the same as Humans. Elves are much better, but always depicted as being the same as humans. Everybody runs around with your traditional medieval weaponry and armour. It really would just be a new Medieval, but with a few exotic skins, and some of the units would have "orc" at the start of the name.

Besides a couple of Trolls and Ents, 2-3 Wizards ('cause the blues definitely wont be there), and a handful of wraiths, there'd be nothing special.

So, yeah. I'd buy the crap out of it if they made it, but getting the rights would cost a fortune, and half the players would be screaming "This isn't fantasy!" because it lacks the overt insanity of WFB.

Hating those films does not make one ignorant of the books.
Yes, he's being pathetically overdramatic with his vitriol, but insulting him (or her, I guess) serves no purpose. Unless of course you're trying to breed resentment towards yourself too.

Then you should know how bad Middle-Earth is for a Total War game. Most of the action in the movies is embellished, and never happened in the books. The politics, diplomacy, and conflicts would be so limited.

Whereas Warhammer is far better for war-gamng, because that was the whole reason it was created. Whereas Tolkein created Middle-Earth as a deep philisophical fantasy, and not a glorification of war.

Also, Warhammer has so many better, more interesting factions; and the the Dwarfs and Elves of Warhammer have so much more to them, then the Middle-Earth Dwarves and Elves. Just look at the Army Books for the Dark Elves, High Elves, Wood Elves, and Dwarfs, and compare their large amount of varied units, lords, heroes, creatures etc, to Middle Earth Elves and Dwarves... there's no contest.

yes but they are not mutually exclusive, you can pinch the best most intersting tolkeinien units and plonk them into warhammer and it would be fantastic like those elephants mumalki, i dont know why people are debating this it was done in previous total war no problems, third age see this epic fight milkandcookies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzaGG398p1M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlbVlRLtDE0
