IGN done it again
Gave Rome II an 8.8
Gave this game 8.6

if we are to scale it down from IGN's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ scale. This game is worst than ROME II. Make sense?

to be fair rome 2 was review by a guy with the last name called butts, so take it with a grain of salt.

The problem is that tthey do a number review and failed to keep it consistent throughout the board. That is what you call a make up bs review.

That's the problem with larger review sites and scoring systems. There's no way to maintain consistency across multiple reviewers who all use their own variation of the 1-10 scale. I don't think many of us would take an IGN review too seriously anyway, whatever the score.

you are exactly right, every review is invalid because review is just your personal opinion on the game. if it is invalid than there should not be a number rating because number represent a scale 1-10 on how good the game is. If you give last game an 8.8 and this game an 8.6 and they are both total war games and they are being review by the same company. No matter what who is doing the review, IGN name is going to represent the score, no one is going to care who the reviewer is. The problem is that tthey do a number review and failed to keep it consistent throughout the board. That is what you call a make up bs review.
If you don't care about the reviewer, then you should not care about the number. Number scores have no meaning without context. You should not just look at the number anyways, when there is a review that talks about the pros and cons of the game. If I tell you that this game is a 9.3 to me, what does that even mean?

You do know that in video game reviews, people only care about the number system right? The problem i am having with ign reviews are they failed to keep even the most simple number system in check. 9.3 means excellent in terms of review that is why it is 1-10 scale.
I am people, and I actually read the reviews because that is where the explanation of oppinions comes in. And a 9.3 for me could be an 8.4 for you. Numbers are meaningless in reviews and should in no basis form your oppinion. I expect people to be smart enough to read the thoughts and oppinions of the reviewer and not just say "It got an 8.6! It is worse than Rome 2!!!!!!."

If numbers don't mean anything, then why do developers/publishers aim for high metacritic scores?
I personally agree though, numbers don't mean anything.

numbers do mean something, that is why they have it. If they don't mean anything than they would not use it in the first place and would just have pros and cons.
I've heard that sometimes sites like IGN have a tendancey to give games higher scores if they think they are going to be popular. If they know that a game is going to sell well away, such as with most AAA games then good reviews tend to attract more people to the sites compared to ones that say the game is bad or mediocre (and more people to see adds).

Numbers and Scores can provide a general indication of a games qulity but these days its not worth as much because 8-9 /10 has pretty much just become the standard even, with 7/10 being what now counts as bad.

Although this is still just a subjective number and much finer detailes should be given for a review to be worth while. Numbers also provide an easy way to sum up a review in a tiny number of words.
Never trust IGN reviews - Hell, never trust single reviews in general. Especially reviews by someone who is being paid to review.

Is the person reviewing the game you? No. So how can they tell you whether the game is good or bad.
The best way to judge if a game is good or not, from my experience at least, is to look at user reviews, disregarding negative reviews because;

Launch issues
Game doesn't support insane resolutions
Game doesn't run at 60fps
Technical issues specific to that person
etc

Take the other reviews into consideration and get a feel for how well the game is received.

But then again, that's my experience with reviews, not yours.

Here's another idea, if you bought the game, play it for 1 hour 30 minutes. If you don't like it, refund it.

Rely on yourself, the world is full of bellends.

Sounds like people are looking for reasons to be annoyed, who cares about the scores? Surely the value of the review is in the article itself, not the obligitory number added on after.

Except it's not because IGN doesn't give specifics or examples in their reviews leaving readers with nothing more than a very general description of the game and lazy bullet points at the end of the review. So yeah, IGN, puts out some of the worst "reviews" of all time with no explanation of anything and that includes how they came up with a review that 99% is regurgitated marketing from the publisher.

Uhh... it's two completely different people reviewing the game.

I don't get how you guys complain that two guys use different scales for points. If they are independent and have different point scales you blast them for inconsistency. If they standardize all of their point system and have the executive editor change the score, you'll accuse them of being paid off.

What the hell do you want them to do, honestly?

The main intent of this thread is more about ironically highlighting the inconsistancy rather than out right blasting it. (at least I assume so)
Gamespot actually played and reviewed the game. They list numerous specifics about the game and don't reprint the game description on the back of the box and call it a review.

IGN. IGN never changed.
Except that this IGN review had quite a bit in it. Have you read the review from them?

It's all generic info reworded from the marketing the developers have put out for a year.

Nice try though. Go read Gamespot's review and you'll see who reviews games and who doesn't. IGN is notorious for this.
