That's the problem with larger review sites and scoring systems. There's no way to maintain consistency across multiple reviewers who all use their own variation of the 1-10 scale. I don't think many of us would take an IGN review too seriously anyway, whatever the score.
You do know that in video game reviews, people only care about the number system right? The problem i am having with ign reviews are they failed to keep even the most simple number system in check. 9.3 means excellent in terms of review that is why it is 1-10 scale.
I personally agree though, numbers don't mean anything.
numbers do mean something, that is why they have it. If they don't mean anything than they would not use it in the first place and would just have pros and cons.
Numbers and Scores can provide a general indication of a games qulity but these days its not worth as much because 8-9 /10 has pretty much just become the standard even, with 7/10 being what now counts as bad.
Although this is still just a subjective number and much finer detailes should be given for a review to be worth while. Numbers also provide an easy way to sum up a review in a tiny number of words.
Is the person reviewing the game you? No. So how can they tell you whether the game is good or bad.
The best way to judge if a game is good or not, from my experience at least, is to look at user reviews, disregarding negative reviews because;
Launch issues
Game doesn't support insane resolutions
Game doesn't run at 60fps
Technical issues specific to that person
etc
Take the other reviews into consideration and get a feel for how well the game is received.
But then again, that's my experience with reviews, not yours.
Here's another idea, if you bought the game, play it for 1 hour 30 minutes. If you don't like it, refund it.
Rely on yourself, the world is full of bellends.
Except it's not because IGN doesn't give specifics or examples in their reviews leaving readers with nothing more than a very general description of the game and lazy bullet points at the end of the review. So yeah, IGN, puts out some of the worst "reviews" of all time with no explanation of anything and that includes how they came up with a review that 99% is regurgitated marketing from the publisher.
I don't get how you guys complain that two guys use different scales for points. If they are independent and have different point scales you blast them for inconsistency. If they standardize all of their point system and have the executive editor change the score, you'll accuse them of being paid off.
What the hell do you want them to do, honestly?
The main intent of this thread is more about ironically highlighting the inconsistancy rather than out right blasting it. (at least I assume so)
IGN. IGN never changed.
It's all generic info reworded from the marketing the developers have put out for a year.
Nice try though. Go read Gamespot's review and you'll see who reviews games and who doesn't. IGN is notorious for this.
