Ask me lore questions
Alright, I guess it's about time that I updated this description.

This is a place for newcomers to the lore, or veterans looking to fact-check, to come and ask questions about the lore of Warhammer Fantasy.

FAQ:
Q: Is 40k and Fantasy the same universe?
A: No. 40k discussions go in this thread. http://steamcommunity.com/app/364360/discussions/0/333656722976215057/

Q: What is the End Times and why did it happen?
A: The End Times is the destruction of the Warhammer Fantasy setting, both in and out of universe. Chaos won the final confrontation and destroyed the world, beginning a new cycle and franchise. Out-of-universe this was done because Fantasy's models were costing Games Workshop more money than they were making them so they decided to scrap the setting entirely and reboot it as an 80's power metal album cover.

Disclaimers/Guidelines (I know that we're not supposed to back-seat moderate but sometimes it's necessary to keep things organized):
1. The most important thing; I AM NOT ALWAYS RIGHT. Do not take what I say as the gospel truth, I can forget and I can misread things just like everybody else. My knowledge of the Elves is also pretty shady. There are several regulars around who tend to fill in blanks or correct me if I'm wrong though, so you'll probably get your answer regardless.

2. Repeat questions are ok, so long as the question hasn't been asked on the same page or the one before it. I don't expect anybody to sift through 3000+ posts, but a light skim of the previous page won't kill anybody.

3. GW is extremely vague on many things, so sometimes there just simply isn't an answer to your question. They're also prone to retcons so sometimes what you think is the answer is no longer valid.

4. Try to avoid arguments. I know that sometimes they're unavoidable, but please don't deliberately antagonize anybody. Pretty basic.

5. Sit back, read, and enjoy.

6. No questions about CA's design decisions, or attempts to explain them. It's pointless, and just starts arguments and existential despair.

7. No using the word "strawman". It's a personal thing, it just grates on me.

8. No continuing the "Skaven don't exist" meme outside the context of the lore. I know it's fun sometimes, but it's old, tired, and just wants to rest. Plus it grates on other people.

yea while gilli was good at statesmanship
he was about as liked among his brothers as the ultramarines are liked among the average 40k fan
imperium secundus was controversial enough without having to have him as the figurehead
instead with the prettyboyprimarch as the face of it, it would look a little less like a second traitor uprising happening while the imperium was too busy with the first

salamander again, primitive world
except for the few cities that have foundations sunk below the tectonic plates and are void shield hardened
they dont govern the world but they do lead their families, the only chapter that still knows and keeps contact with their families and they are revered elders in those families
so while they dont govern they have a lot of influence if the governer wants to do something drastic he will ask a salamander for the ok

raven guard and iron hands im not sure
very little novels about the raven guard homeworld
think the iron hand world cities is mostly a forge world with mechanicus as the rulers but im not certain, while they recruit from the slag scavengers living out in the wastes
Ashardalon 6 ago. 2022 às 15:21
both iron hands and raven guard are founding chapters
the raven guard are the beakys from the corvus corax primarch, i know the orld has a lot of orbital platforms since he grew up on one when it was filled with slaves
no idea how it looks now

iron hands ferrus manus, yes great primarch names, also founding chapter
used to be a mining world with a impressive orbital ring
but the planet was already mined out before the imperium arrived
now ore is shipped down for processing instead
again, all i know about it, no idea how the shipping or processing or people who do it is organized

He was plenty liked, he's just overshadowed by the supernatural charisma of people like Sanguinius or Horus. He was solidly middle-of-the-road.

I have absolutely no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idea what the Iron Hands are about at this point.

Raven Guard I'm honestly not sure how much we're even privy to, but I know that at least their primary homeworld was handed over to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Mechanicus of all people. I think the moon their Fortress-Monastery is on is lifeless and they just go out for recruits.

Salamanders have a very close connection with the people of their homeworld, but it's also very primitive (although as far as I can tell they don't try to change it so they can keep the populace sheltered from the horrors of the galaxy rather than to keep it a breeding ground for warriors).

Yes? And what's your point? He knew that, and he never wanted to be a leader like that anyway, which is why he put Sanguinius on the throne.

It doesn't make him unpopular.

Is it just me, or are custodes more human looking, better proportioned than space marines? They don't appear to have the huge chests you see in most space marine art, for example?

It's not just you, it's a canon thing.

Why is it the case, did the marine chapters lose some of the skill over the centuries, but the custodes were better at maintaining the standards. Or were space marines always a bit lumpy looking

Space Marines were always disproportionate. They're soldiers, and built purely with soldiering in mind. They don't need to look good, they just need to be effective and resource-efficient. They're the cheap, mass produced model of supersoldier.

Custodes on the other hand are individually hand-crafted masterpieces, designed to be artists and philosophers just as much as warriors, and are meant to be the pinnacle of what mankind can be. This means aesthetically just as much as functionally.
Argronok0 7 ago. 2022 às 5:39
If the Adeptus Custodes are playable, why play as Space Marines at all when the Custodes last I heard were supposed to be even greater then a Space Marine?

Like each Custodes is as strong as a Chapter Master or Chaos Lord.
