Ask me lore questions
Alright, I guess it's about time that I updated this description.

This is a place for newcomers to the lore, or veterans looking to fact-check, to come and ask questions about the lore of Warhammer Fantasy.

FAQ:
Q: Is 40k and Fantasy the same universe?
A: No. 40k discussions go in this thread. http://steamcommunity.com/app/364360/discussions/0/333656722976215057/

Q: What is the End Times and why did it happen?
A: The End Times is the destruction of the Warhammer Fantasy setting, both in and out of universe. Chaos won the final confrontation and destroyed the world, beginning a new cycle and franchise. Out-of-universe this was done because Fantasy's models were costing Games Workshop more money than they were making them so they decided to scrap the setting entirely and reboot it as an 80's power metal album cover.

Disclaimers/Guidelines (I know that we're not supposed to back-seat moderate but sometimes it's necessary to keep things organized):
1. The most important thing; I AM NOT ALWAYS RIGHT. Do not take what I say as the gospel truth, I can forget and I can misread things just like everybody else. My knowledge of the Elves is also pretty shady. There are several regulars around who tend to fill in blanks or correct me if I'm wrong though, so you'll probably get your answer regardless.

2. Repeat questions are ok, so long as the question hasn't been asked on the same page or the one before it. I don't expect anybody to sift through 3000+ posts, but a light skim of the previous page won't kill anybody.

3. GW is extremely vague on many things, so sometimes there just simply isn't an answer to your question. They're also prone to retcons so sometimes what you think is the answer is no longer valid.

4. Try to avoid arguments. I know that sometimes they're unavoidable, but please don't deliberately antagonize anybody. Pretty basic.

5. Sit back, read, and enjoy.

6. No questions about CA's design decisions, or attempts to explain them. It's pointless, and just starts arguments and existential despair.

7. No using the word "strawman". It's a personal thing, it just grates on me.

8. No continuing the "Skaven don't exist" meme outside the context of the lore. I know it's fun sometimes, but it's old, tired, and just wants to rest. Plus it grates on other people.

Divine Comedy indeed

I did watch the video though, never read what happened after hell.

To which they also covered in these videos, but lets just say there is a reason why the Inferno part is remembered more then the following two stories:

Have you read Beowulf?

I have seen Beowulf:

And I liked it a lot.

Have you read Beowulf?
No, but there is a video on it by OSP

People that made the video about Dante's Inferno

Despite my earlier post. I own Tolkien's traslation and commentary on Beowulf.

Bit of an odd, non-lore question for Harukage & Ulrik.

What are the "John Smith" names in your cultures? That being a name sounding so stereotypically average or common, that you might assume the person is giving you a false name?
We don't really have any "John Smith" in Norwegian. You have some super common last names like "Ødegård/Ødegaard" which translates to "desolate farm" that came after the black death as a lot of the farmsteads got wiped out letting a ton of people get a free farm. But in Norway any name that got a reputaion for being super common are also actually super common so it is never something you raise an eyebrow about.
We do have a hybrid between "John Smith" and "average Joe" though. "Ola Nordmann" (male) and "Kari Nordmann" (female) where "Nordmann"=Norwegian.

The movie was...eh.

Animated Angelina Jolie as Grendel's mother is 👌 though.

I think that more of the fact that Beowulf the story as is is eh.

It was never seen as this landmark visionary story and writing.

What it is, is one of the most oldest English stories we know and a Rosetta Stone for how English evolved from Old to now.

That's very interesting, especially the Ødegård/Ødegaard. Thanks!

What about dual spears? Or even dual shields?
Not as a mainline unit. Some of them fight with sword and shield, but they're the exception rather than the rule.

Who is Amareekh Khail? What is Athel Oreirian? Also what are Bloodscythes? I tried searching them but I can't seem to find anything relevant.

I can't check my 8th Ed book, since I no longer have a computer, so someone else is going to have to see if the wiki is lying again.

As for the greater lore significance of those names, there isn't any. Even if the wiki didn't make them up, they're nothing more than a single mention in the army book for the sake of filler and have no presence in the wider setting.

Are there humans in/around barag varr?
I think so, I want to say there are some Border Princes who have set up in their territory in an effort to get some extra security from the Greenskins.

Well now its the best time to get into it....at least the books because arguably the TV show quality writing went down hill hard. Arguably after Season 3 was when it went downhill.

Lets just say after the War of Five Kings was over, Game of Thrones was never the same again.
I dunno, I enjoyed it. Which was something of a surprise to me, because I don't enjoy most things.

Reverend, what do you know of Beastmen Gaves?

Gaves are Beastmen who were born to human parents. Most of them are Turnskins, regular mutants who have thrown their lot in with the Beastmen for one reason or another and fill a slave caste below even Ungors, but some are born as Gors or worse (Malagor is technically a Gave, and it's obviously even in Morghur's title) and enjoy a normal status or even leadership.

Well so far the big bad antagonist is not Egil Styrbjorn in this Knight Errant book, but a Gave that seems to be in charge of the local Beastmen.

And it seems he has control over the trees since there is a point where it seems the wild Beastmen forests seems to be spreading more bigger then usual.

Is there a term for Beastmen not born to human parents, maybe to two beastmen parents? Do they hold any particular rank amongst the BM?

If you define "ever" as meaning "the history of the game rules" rather than the current canon, I'll note that High Elves had sword+shield (technically any hand weapon--the book notes they could also wield maces or axes) infantry in 4th edition as "Elf Warriors", who had some other equipment options as well.

Abaddon the Despoiler got a new model and it looks sick:

But Archaon still looks more badass then him.
