This has the results of some testing (along with a previous post that's linked to from this one):

Thanks for the link, just gonna read it now. I'm on my second game (normal difficulty, both games I was VC) and am about 170 turns through and only had 2 fights with the greenskins, both early on and they had weak units. I made a non-aggression pack with some dwarves and I think the dwarves have kept the greens out. I've not even seen a giant spider yet but I'm looking forward to it.
Fighting the AI it seems like you will only get charged when it's fully to their advantage. If you put a box of spearmen around your squishies then their cavalry will ignore the whole lot and chase your cavalry or circle around. That's been my experience at least, fighting the Bretonnia and Empire factions in the Empire campaign. The only time I have seen them charge spears is when I screw up and move them so they don't have the bonus.
No, you have to have stopped moving completely. Forcing you to think about movement and where you put your stopping power. Depends what you want to stop. But you do have to be standing still.
All the shield button at the bottom does is stop your units which you want to hold a solid line, stay put in that formation, rather than chase the enemy.
The way CA explained it, was that they had removed the need to press a button to form shield wall and that your units will automatically take up the position.
Bracing is when your units are stopped
Bracing is when you hit the Guard Icon
Ok ...guard icon(shield) stops your units from chasing
Halt (hand) stops your units from moving.
Anyone actually ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ know at what point the game considers the unit to be "bracing"?

This guy explains and points go to those that said just have your unit standing still..no buttons required. Also - from watching that video and messing around in the game..the units don't have any special bracing animations they just attack when the enemy unit gets in range.
Nice one. Thank you and merry xmas
