Shadow is best
Metal is worst
Death helps you snipe lords and can annihilate blobs with purple sun of xereus, the buffs/debuffs are fairly useless in campaign, though in QM they can all be monstrous. FoB is basically useless in campaign, in QM its a perfect counter to elite units. Death struggles to be useful in sieges, because except soul-blight and doom and darkness, you dont have much that works effectively in the gate/wall area ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Metal gives you final transmutation, which is like an AOE spirit leech on crack. It's stupid strong. It has a meh vortex spell and the glittering cloak is pretty useless, but the bombardment spells, transmutation of lead and plague of rust are all also immensely powerful. Keep in mind a lot of the fighting you do in campaign are sieges, where bombardments and large AOE debuffs are more effective than vortices. Those same good spells are also very solid in MP. Dont underestimate metal just cuz people say it isnt that good.
Shadows is a jack of all trades lore. All of the spells are good, all have some use, all are somewhat situational.
The fire bombardment and fireball are both really strong, as is flaming sword of rhuin and cascading fire cloak. What isnt really useful is the burning head, much less firestorm, though at least in campaign AI clumps enough to sometimes make them useful.
Either way, in campaign it doesnt really matter, its up to you, though Id probably say metal or fire are strongest in the situations you normally face. In QM death might hold that title just cuz of FoB, but I dunno.
