I use 7 Graveguard and 5 more with great weapons. The initial 7 form my front line, the other 5 in a line behind them. The 7 take the initial charge, meaning they will also soak the enemies charge. Then I counter charge with the 5 with great weapons.
While this does mean I mitigate my own charge with them by charging into the backs of my own units, it also means they won't be taking any damage from the enemies charge. They will then proceed to tear the enemies apart who are already engaging the more defensive, standard Graveguard.
You could use them to flank as well, but that's what Vargheists and Black Knights are for anyway.
Hope that helps.
