Not at all. Every other total war game has mini campaigns and the great war.
Not to mention that the main "story" in this game is that your goal is to stop (or join) Archeon..
Most Total Wars (with the exceptions of what Reverend Belial listed) do not come with a story campaign, or at least thats not where the main focus is at. The Total War campaigns have, for the most part, been sandbox by nature. I thought that with the hours in Total War that you do have, that you would know that fact by now.
There has been DLC in the past, however, that has added a couple of story campaigns, like Caeser in Gaul for Rome 2. In fact, Warhammer 1 does ,indeed, have mini-campaigns through a couple of its DLC, such as the Beastmen and Wood Elves expansions. That one DLC with the Dwarfan and Greenskin legendary lord (forgot the name) can also be said to resemble a "story" of sorts.
But tbh, this is not what Warhammer 1 is really about. Even the "story" mini-campaigns in the DLCs act more as a scaled-down and linear version of the sandbox grand campaign, rather than resembling any true cinematic and scripted narrative. You might honestly be better off just enjoying the sandbox experience - and thats where really the creme of the game is at anyway (as with most Total Wars). Besides, you can always feel free to use your imagination and create your own "story" in your head as you progress through the campaign.
Also, I think Warhammer 2 would fulfill your niche for a story-driven campaign (i.e. the Vortex Campaign) better than this game anyway.
Warhammers a huge world with several micro storylines they could have centered campaigns around. It just seems like a huge missed oppurtunity. But maybe next game they'll capitalize on it a litte more. The grand campaign is fun and all, and usually what I play. But like I said, Warhammer has the rich storyline with loads of lore. Thought they'd delve into that.
