Ask any Lore Question: The 40k version.
As I said in Reverand Belial's thread I wanted to make a 40k version of the Lore thread because well I have learned so much from Warhammer Fantasy already that I am now more curious to talk about the other Warhammer Universe, Warhammer 40,000.

So basic rules of the original thread still applies here.

So sit back and read and ask away any questions about the 40k universe.

More or less. Ultramarines are still widely regarded as 'the origin' of the Space Marines though.

Interesting bit of trivia: If the Imperium suddenly suspected the Ultramarines of having even just a tiny smidge of chaos corruption to them, they wouldn't just eradicate the entire Ultramarine chapter, but every other space marine chapter too, since they all came from the Ultramarines.
u wut? Each Gene-seed is unique, nor was Ultramarines the first Legion, so I'm kinda confused.

What's stopping Angron from becoming another Skarbrand?
Who is the next likely loyalist primarch to return? I think it will be either Leman Russ or Lion'el Johnson. I can just foresee that Lion is going to be so pissed off when he sees what the Imperium has become since the last ten thousand years while he was hiding in his giant rock. Now that Guilliman has returned along with Cypher, he's the most likely candidate to appear imo.

Hm. . . .I imagine either Rogel Dorn or Vulken. Though I would like to see Magnus get redeemed somehow.

Well, a lot of them are.

Before the HH, the Ultramarines were the most numerous. Afterwards, they were massively the most numerous.

9 loyalist legions....
The Iron Hands, Raven Guard and Salamanders were a shattered mess.
The Space Wolves produced the Wolf Brothers
The Dark Angels had several succession chapters, maybe 5 or 6?
Ditto the Blood Angels....
White Scars and Imperial Fists, I dunno, probably not more than a dozen between them.

Be generous, call it 30 chapters there.

The Ultramarines budded off a further 20 chapters, many of which were sufficiently successful and powerful to bud of more.

While the Ultramarines and their successors are not ALL the Space Marines, they are a massive proportion of them. Maybe 70 to 80%? It's a fair probablility that if a chapter is not obviously a successor of the others, then they're descended from the Ultramarines.

Note also that there are quite a few chapters (Soul Drinkers, Blood Ravens, and so on) where no-one, including themselves, has any clue about where they're from. See also Red Corsairs and the Legion of the Damned for further edge cases.

While yes, The Ultramarines did have the largest Legion, but they also lost around 60-70% of their numbers during the HH, in one battle., which put their total strength at the time, at a close even with most of the other larger loyalist chapters.

Also, I believe that Ultramarines & its succesor chapters, make up (Bit more than half) 60%, not 70 to 80. (5th Edition, pg 8)

But then again, there's chapters where the actual amount of Space marines within them, are unlcear.

*tilts head in a thinking pose* I may be remembering this incorrectly but arent the Black Templar's the largest Space Marine chapter due to their circumventing Robert Gullimone's Codex through their never ending ever expanding Crusades?

Yes, most likely. Same with Space Wolves, they don't really care that much about numbers either.

How is he now in the 40k universe comparerd to his Fantasy Counterpart?

No one answered my question regarding this.

You know Lord Bear, after months of trying, you may have asked a question that no-one can answer :)

There's not really any major difference, apart from achieving a much higher score of kills in 40k than in fantasy.

Rumored that he is currently back in the warp after Dante bisected him.

I thought that was Fulgrim at first.
