Ask any Lore Question: The 40k version.
As I said in Reverand Belial's thread I wanted to make a 40k version of the Lore thread because well I have learned so much from Warhammer Fantasy already that I am now more curious to talk about the other Warhammer Universe, Warhammer 40,000.

So basic rules of the original thread still applies here.

So sit back and read and ask away any questions about the 40k universe.

Do Necrons fight each other, if so, what over exactly? What sort of personalities are their leaders?

Can one "interact" with the Necrons? I always assumed these Robots were beyond mortal interactions.
dead man walking has them asking people to leave
people refuse and die

sanctuary 101 also has a necron "scientist" that asks questions while he dissasembles people to check how they work

there is also one who thanked an inquisitor for sending him a squad of catachans to complete his collection
might have the squad mixed up

so yes, if they want to talk they talk, if humans want to talk ... ha good luck

That last one was trazyn. She invaded solemnace with a few regiments. Only she got out and trazyn sent a letter thanking her for the gift, as it allowed him to weed out some of the substandard pieces in other displays. He also gifted her a tesseract labyrinth.

"Dear Lady, let me express my fulsome appreciation for your most generous gift. It is so very rare to discover another of my own kind that appreciates my work, therefore to find understanding amongst a member of another race is nothing short of a revelation. I realise that you briefly trod my galleries, but the fact that you spotted in so short a time that my Acabrius War collection was lacking three regiments of Catachan warriors reveals that you truly have a collector's eye for detail. And to send five regiments! Such generosity will allow me to weed out and replace a few of the more substandard pieces in my collection. If I might level a minor criticism, the instructions issued to your gift were manifestly not as clear as you thought, as most of them had to be forcibly restrained -- sadly it seems that the lower orders will always behave like an army of invasion, whether that be their purpose or not. However, this is a minor complaint and seems almost churlish under the circumstances, so please allow me to repay your gift with one of my own. Accompanying this message is the Hyperstone Maze, one of a series of Tesseract Labyrinths constructed at the height of the Charnovokh Dynasty. It is a trinket really, only of interest to scholars such as you and I, but I trust you will find it amusing -- assuming you have the wit to escape its clutches, of course."

mostly lord vs lord
the one who wins gets the troops and planets of the loser
they cant breed more people so even if they dont lose people their numbers are really valuable to them
also the generators to wake more people up
well... people

Yed. Over rights to territory and old rivalries.

Imhotek: mostly hostile. Believe Necrons should rule the galaxy again. Too bad for everyone else.

Zandrek: cray as feck. Still thinks it's during the necrontyr civil wars. See everyone as necrontyr. Very honourable. Takes care of his guests/prisoners.

Trazyn: MINE!

Szeras: I wanna see how you work on the inside

Orikan: smug know it all with a plan

Trazyn is weird but he is not realy hostile. Zahndrekh is outright noble general. Szarekh the Silent King is not realy interested in anything but saving the milky way from outside force he saw beyond. While Imotekh is generaly hostile to anything that does not belong to his dynasty, other necrons most of the time included.

Of course. It's the only one that fits.

And yes, necrons fight between each other. They belong to different dynasties, read kingdoms or clans that were never truly united, and they acted as a single force only when the silent king and his Triarch were in active rule.
And still some of the dynasties were rebellious. When the last silent king left the galaxy in self-imposed exile, dynasties were bound by law of his rule no more and returned to old feuds and power struggle. Triarch were left there to watch over tomb worlds and react to any serious danger to necron race, but are bound to remain neutral in necron inter-racial conflicts.
Currently the silent king had returned but takes no real interest in taking control over the race, instead seeking ways to battle tyranids.

Are these Necron dynasties new things? Back when I was fairly into W40K, the Necrons were definitely very monolithic, were super utilitiarian and didn't express any examples art aside from their Ankh symbol and Tomb World colours. Now I'm googling these leaders and seeing examples of types of clothing, jewellery and other stylistic things.
Yes. Last 3 edition is when the got their own full lore. They used to just be a basic force of 5 units: lord, warrior, immortal, scarab and destroyer. I still have a couple of the old models.

I remember when that Star Trek movie introduced the Borg Queen, and fans were fairly salty about that. Did the same happen with Necron fans?

Necrons and Blood Angels working together being the most prominant example.

Newcrons are 40k times more interesting and diverse though. Oldcrons as one of those 999 impending dooms were boring as ♥♥♥♥.
So current lore Necrons are not "Evil"?
