A branchwraith has a mic of shadow and life spells to cast, or can be more melee/oriented. Or both, higher level.

Spellsingers are more specialised, and can get a flying mount
So the Spellsingers are better spell casters than a branchwraith could be?

Branchwraith gets a mix of the best low-level lore of life+lore of shadows spells, and can hold its own in melee. The spellsinger simply gets one lore so you get access to all of that lores magic, and get an eagle, but their melee is atrocious, while the branchwraith is one of the best melee casters in the game. Branchwraith also improves public order when deployed, vs the spellsinger reducing building costs. Personally, I prefer the branchwraith, but as elves I usually end up getting the spellsinger because I never bother with dryads+treekin so i dont build the structure for it.
Unless you want regrowth, pit of shades or okkams mind razor, or building construction cost reduction, I would take the branchwraith.

Oh yeah, also, branchwraith can boost nearby units melee attack by +8 and still gets access to smoke and mirrors and the life bloom iirc(definitely smoke and mirrors, Im not sure about lifebloom off the top of my head)
