I would also argue Runelords are better than any other lord besides Grombrindle because MBD is just gross as well as his blue line. Never really got to use Ungrim and I hear he can solo armies pretty well (at least a good chunk of it with Potions and being Unbreakable).
If anything Thanes and Engineers need better stuff...
It's not that those runes are weak, they're no doubt very powerful, but it's the lack of other Runes that I see as the real issue.
I mean the second set of runes for Runesmith and Runelords are just dumb buffs for the character themselves, and not that great of ones to begin with. I'm just saying that at least the Rune Lord should offer some passive runes or something that make him feel more like a runelord beyond just one or two abilities.
I think that they could at least do something somewhat like the Gorbull, with a special rune or set of Runes that you can only get one of, each doing a different thing. Like one increases defense and even ends up adding armor to surrounding units.
I think that's something they should rework with all heroes and lords, and that's making them more specialized to make them feel like that kind of lord or hero and not just a ever so slightly different type of lord or hero.
Some may argue that Total War is influenced by SP which is not the case. I forget which Patch it was but the small tweeks they made to accomidate MP (rightfully so since no one was playing Dwarfs) influenced not only Auto Resolve to the point 99% loss was a win against Greenskins but it also made Dwarfs virtually unbreakable on difficulties Hard +.
On one other note the buffs are actually pretty decent and I wish I had the numbers right now and I might edit this later but 400 Weapon Damage * 1.08= 432 Damage thats pretty decent for a 8% Weapon Damage Rune. The other runes give sizable RoI as well. I will also note that 60 armor is nothing to snuff at as well.
My point was take those Lords and heroes compared to the others. Thanes/Wight Kings are just damage sponges with no real worth. Engineer does fine but unless your fielding 10 Organ Guns in a army your missing out on an extra unit of Iron Breakers or Thunderers.
Runelords and Runesmiths are fine other things need tweeking before they need any buffs or nerfs.
Well, You do somewhat have a point with them being generic lords, but only a little. When and if they add in Kragg the Grim, CA really need to rework the Runelords and smiths, or make him or Thorek Ironbrow really be vastly different from the generic Runelords.
And you're very wrong about the Thanes and Engineers.
While yes, the Engineers aren't the super greatest damage dealers themselves, they're meant to buff the ranged troops of the Dwarfs, not just the artillery. That would help a lot if you were either rolling a good number of Rangers with a Runelord or any artillery or missile infantry with any other lord.
Thanes are can very good at leading your troops into battle, especially if you kit them out properly. For instance, if you give a thane the Brass Cleaver weapon and the Master Rune of Strommi Redbeard, he will be granting a +16 melee attack bonus to units within a 40 meter radious. If you combine that with a Rune of Battle or two, especially to units like Ironbreakers, you'll have a very deadly combination.
So just trying to say that the Thane and Engineer heroes are useless is not only dumb, but shows a lack of ever having used them properly.
