Vampires are pretty much screwed when leaving their territory.
You go out in raiding stance so you don't take attrition, burn their stuff and get back to your lands to replenished, either that or you merge/disband damaged units and raise dead to get more on the way.
Either spread your corruption via buildings and chacters or maintain a raiding stance in enemy territory. Use raise dead to replenish your numbers . Better if you let the other factions sow provinces with famous battle sites.

It's the only thing really holding back the VC.
But with this disadvantage there was not e real need for a healing cap in battle.
