Why are the Warriors of Chaos and Norsca not just one big faction?
Forgive my ignorance, I thought the Warriors of Chaos primarily consisted of Norscan warriors in the first place. So why this faction split?
The more I read the wikis the more confused I get over this issue. :S

Why arn't Scotland and ENgland one big faction, eh.

Because they are separate factions offering an alternative playstyle.

Think of it like the Greenskins, the Bloody Handz and Crooked Moon; Dwarfs and Clan Angrund; Vampire Counts and Von Carstein; but with Norsca being even more distinct as a faction.

If Norsca and the Warriors of Chaos were combined, they would have an overwhelmingly large roster compared to all of the other factions.

The main difference between the Warriors of Chaos and Norscan tribes is the difference in lifestyle, dedication to the Chaos Gods and recognition by the Chaos Gods. Norscans dedicate their activities to the Dark Gods, but they are very much barbaric – or rather, viking-like humans that still engage in politics (to a degree), hunting, plunder, trade (don't know if this will be the case game-wise, but it is lore-wise) and have communities, albeit tribal / primitive.

The Warriors of Chaos are essentially what Norscans can become once they gain more favour with the Chaos Gods. These true followers of chaos live only to serve the Chaos Gods and live to destroy everything that resides within the mortal realm in the name of their chosen god(s). The Warriors of Chaos are no longer viking-like people, but instead mutated or extremely powerful humanoids that live only to destroy for their god(s). Norscan culture, activities and way of living become nothing but a fragment of the past.

It's called chaos for something.

The chaos is formed by a lot of normally independent subfactions that most of the time are killing each other.

The only thing able to unite under one banner the chaos is a chosen of chaos so absurdly powerful that no one is capable of doing the slightest damage within the factions affiliated to the chaos.

The warriors of chaos represent this subjugation in the game and the lore but that doesnt mean that they are a single faction.

Imagine the Roman Empire. For them all that was more of their borders were barbarians, but that is nothing more than a term coined on the basis of absolute ignorance and indifference.

Chaos aren't supposed to be unified - they fight each other all the time and that's how the chaos gods want it to be.
The Norscans are a series of tribes. They aren't one monolithic group and part of the campaign involves getting them to unite. That's the same for every other faction in the game BTW.

Probably, doesn't make much sense to me otherwise.

Well in Scotland and Englands case they are not all Norsemen who worship the Chaos Gods, and are not listed as the Warriors of Chaos everywhere I read about them. Most Chaos Champions are Norsemen, Most Chaos Warriors are Norsemen, so I honestly don't understand the need to split factions. They worship Chaos, they are warriors, hence Warriors of Chaos... All of which Norsca are...

Read my previous post and you will better understand the differences. Norsemen are no longer norsemen when they become warriors of chaos. They become empowered humanoids with no need for food, drink or sleep; no identity other than chaos, conflict and destruction.

If you still think Norse tribes in Warhammer, based on viking and norse mythology with a fantasy twist, are similar to humanoids that no longer need food, fluids or sleep, exist only to gain favour with their gods and destroy everything for the sake of destroying everything, then perhaps you need to do some research for yourself on the lore of Norsca and Chaos if what I am saying still doesn't sink in.

Okay OP, you're right, they should just cancel the Norsca DLC since we already have Chaos. :P

Joking aside, the reason reading wikis is probably confusing is that in tabletop Warhammer, there is no Norsca faction. They ARE just part of the Warriors of Chaos army list.

Still, there's plenty of interesting background lore about them, and there's nothing at all wrong with CA making the game world richer by expanding on parts of the world that weren't as detailed in tabletop.

The more separate factions there are with unique army lists, the more choices there are and the more fun the game is. That's reason enough right there to do things like Norsca.
