Zhufbar in the dwarf campaign
Hello guys,I've conquered the entire rib peaks swiftly anticipating a zhufbar army that was already sieging, the problem is that now zhufbar is under siege by the vampires, had over 70%corruption and the other 2 cities of that region are ruins.Should I go help them or they can still survive by themselves?By helping them I'll lose the chance to expand to the south as another dwarf fortress is already approaching to the weak orcs in that region and fighting the vampires will be hard for me too

I found helping or confederating with Zhufbar early was a real pass in the arse due to the vampires. You constantly have to split your forces between fighting the Orcs and Vampires.

My advice is concentrate on the south and let them fend for themselves until you are powerful enough to help them and fight in the south too (or they die and you just recolonise their lands later).

As concerned for the faith of another dwarf fortress as I am,I have to leave it tho its destiny anyway.Vampires are too much and I have a south side of the map to conquer

It wouldn't be so hard to do both if you could travel between Karaz a Karak and Zhufbar faster but those mountains are just a bit to wide.
if Zhufbar got weak enough, you may be able to confederate with it (and preserve one of their good armies); you may also sustain their life thru offer money. The whole game is trying to create challenges for you so player can't expand too fast (and thus feel bored; just like some other mainstream strategic games) so if I were you, I would not put all my efforts running far away to the South (/ a particular place / region) as AI may change things adversely for you suddenly (such as changing your diplomatic situation / beastmen coming from nowhere). Look at the bigger picture, maintain a balance and expand slowly and cautiously. :steamsad:

I've got a full army and a second army at 9/20.In the current save Zhufbar is extinct. What should I do?Do I go on war with all the vampires and then conquer zufbar?Or should I leave a great army in the rib peaks to guard without attacking?Or do I reload and run to save Zhufbar?
to decide whether to go to war with vampire, you need to assess what vampire wants, vampire can't occupy dwarves settlement so that basically that is out of border issue between vampire and zhufbar, so if you go to take the land after zhufbar disappears you still have to face the same border problem with vampire. so the thing is you have to check the diplomatic information on vampires' relation with empire states (to see whether they can join war with you on vampire), Chaos status (whether you need a strong vampire to resist the Chaos), beastmen status (whether wood elf is busy fighting them or those beastmen are free to attack you instead, the Greenskin status (whether you can really finish them shortly or you need to take more than 2 good armies or even +1 average army to finish them and that means you dun have 1-2 standing armies (5-10 units in strength each) for other region's defense.

i always like to keep alive my border faction (or enemies of my enemies) alive and even give them money occasionally to strengthen their postions as i can't just have multi front wars. you have to know that after all, game 1 is all about Chaos and its Norse faction. when they come, if Empire not strong enough you basically lose the game lately. And a living Zhufbar not even provide a buffer for you between Vampires but also later on from Chaos so you may send armies into Empire to fight Chaos with them.

At the moment 1 full army and 1 9/20 really sounds nothing. can't really be aggressive running long long distance for those Greenskin especially further south, the land is so vast that it really takes you a long long to come back in time.

I've taken zhufbar and the nearby sattlement with my first full army,I'll take the other town of the province from the orks.Got another full army sieging black crag, but I can't take the full province cause another dwarf has taken 1 sattlement.I'm considering restarting XD
oh... you may not need to restart (although i have been doing so :steammocking: ) i only recently learn that some people just love to play till the end although they find that something have been gone wrong, and some very good total war players can actually use a very weak army to win impossible battle (and the campaign) so it is just part of a learning process. if your campaign strategy is not going well, you may decide to sharpen you battle handling skills to fight numerous battles to win the campaign. Or your campaign stratey always works seamlessly, you never have incentive to learn how to excel in battle skills. Just my two cents :steamhappy:

You're totally right, but I play the campaign not to train in battle(I'll do that in multiplayer) but because I want to conquer the world. And even if I'm fine with not conquering the blood valley(or river?) I can't stand the fact that another dwarf got a settlement in the dark crag province

Definetly decided to restart. It happened the exact opposite of what the guide "How to dworf" suggested: I ended up with a totally unwinnable war against the vampires, even when I wiped out their armies I couldn't attack castel drakenof because of attitrion and its overpowered garrison. In the meantime Barak Varr was conquering the entire south and refused to help with vampires,gg wp

How are you not confederated with Barak Varr? theyre usually confederated by Turn 5-10 in my games. Dwarves should honestly focus on just dominating their corner of the map in most games, then expand North in the later stages after they control all of the south east corner and have fortifications ready to block the bjornling invasion.

Well you know, they ask for alliance, but then you have to ask them to confederate, and I didn't
