Mod Cap Limit
I want to first mention that I love Warhammer, Total War, and Warhammer Total War. I have gotten many hours of playtime out of this game and continue to do so, especially with mods.

However, I am upset that there seems to be a mod limit on Warhammer Total War. I have around 77-78 mods active but whenever I go over that number of active mods, the game crashes on startup. It is not incompatibility as it does not matter which mod I add after I have reach the apparent cap, the game crashes. I have extensively tested the mods my mates and I use for compatibility and that is not an issue.

This is not a gamebreaking problem for us, however, it does kind of suck to not be able to mod as much as we like, barring, of course, compatibility.

I was wondering if anyone else encountered this apparent mod cap and if CA has anything to say on the matter. It would help to know if it is intended, a cap forced due to the game engine?, etc. Perhaps CA also does not realize it exists.

Either way, I wanted to discuss this cap with the community and see what everyone else thinks about it and if anyone else has had frustration with it.

I did not place this is troubleshooting as I do not know if it is a bug or issue with the game and might be intended. I simply wished for the community to discuss it...

77 mods active at once might be over doing it a little dude, calm down.

Most strategy games I have between 150-200 mods. Stellaris has a lot more than warhammer, for example.

I am not the only one who uses tons of mods on certain games, and the point is not how many mods we use, the point is that, in a game that is "mod friendly" there is a mod cap limit...

It's not a "cap limit". A cap or limit implies that it was put there intentionally; if it was their intention to limit mods, they would've done it with a pop-up message or something, not by crashing the game.

Mods, being mods instead of official software, can lead to instability. If you're using that many mods on many different games you know that. It appears that TW:W has a bug that triggers under some circumstance - it might, despite your efforts, be a specific combination of mods, it might actually be the number you employ, but it's still a bug. Try posting it on the official forums (https://forums.totalwar.com/categories/total-war-warhammer) to make sure the devs see it and it may be fixed at some point.

I figured that might be the issue, however, I posted here initially to see if anyone else encountered the problem as well and I wasn't certain that it wasn't intentional. I should guess so however, and I do plan to post the issue on the forums to see what the devs say about it.

Hi All. There is definately some kind of mod cap limit. The game consistantly crashes for me when i use more than 70 mods. I have tried hundreds of combinations and spent days changing my mods and checking for conflicts and i just cannot have more than 70 or game wont start.

I can hardly imagine why anyone would need to use 70-plus mods...

Yup, my max is 80 atm. And there are plenty of reasons, for example, 1 mod for each faction for more units/unit overhaul, then things that increase gameplay, like leveling, skills, traits, etc for legendary lords. Any kind of cosmetic mods to change the look of units, lords, etc, to look more like tabletop. Map mods that actually give each settlement a proper town/village/w/e map. The list goes on and on...

I'm with you on that one lampros, I can hardly use 10 before incomp starts to kick in. let alone 70 diff mods o.O

To each his own, however, there are many of us who take our time and work hard to make our game as awesome as we wish it to be with our 50-80 or so mods and know how to keep from incompatability. And for those of us who do like that many mods and take the time and effort to make sure there aren't compatability issues, this mod cap limit is frustrating...

Nearly 80 mods? Yikes. I mostly run with one or 2 at most.

Has a programmer, I can say there is no intentional mod cap, but their technical mod cap based on the game and your PC, at some point when the load order has too many loose files (mods) the game would bug in result in a crash. there two possible fixes. first one upgrade your PC (lower spec tend to crash more) for avoid insufficient resources. the second fix is very complicated because you need to organized your loose file (mods) with the help of something like a script-extender-manager software (like SKSE, F4SE if you mods Bethesda game). and you will probably need the Help CA. that is not likely to happen so you need to deal with.( Anyway, with 70 mods you should be happy)
