Is HeroQuest part of the WH Lore?
So when I was a kid I used to play a lot the boardgame heroquest, there were 4 heroes fighting against the evil Morcar, and his armies were made of zombies, skeletons, mummies, warriors of chaos, gargoyles, fimir, orc and goblins.

Was it part of the Lore? Who's Morcar?

No its not part of Warhammer. Its just a bord game Games workshop made before they made Warhammer. They got the Idea for the Tabletop from that boardgame.

It can be confusing because they got some Models of Heroquest in Warhammer. Like Chaos Warriors, Orks, Goblins and Fimirs. But it was never part of the Lore.

Morcar was a Necromancer in Heroquest. He never existed in WH.

WH was created about 10 years before Hero Quest though?

Well Heroquest was released 89. And Warhammer exist since 83. But We talking about some Models and some rules. It was far away from what we know about Warhammer today.
It was the time when they released Skeletons with machineguns and stuff like that.

After Heroquest there was Claymore (Battlemasters) it was a mix between HQ and the Tabletop.

Both Boardgames had heavy influence in the Tabletop and made it what we have today.

Actually that's incorrect. Morkar was the first Everchosen and he was defeated by Sigmar Heldenhammer himself.

HeroQuest is partially true to the Lore. There are many areas you visit in your quests that exist in the world of Warhammer like Karak Varn (Black Crag). It seems to take place in the age of Sigmar, though never actually stated in the manuals.

Also, the world of Warhammer was created quite a few years before the board game was released.

Morkar was a Chaos Lord in Warhammer.

two totaly different persons.

And yeas i did already say that one was released 89 and the other 83. But did you play WH between 83 and 89? It wasnt that Warhammer we have today. It changed alot since then. And Claymore (battlemasters) And Heroquest had a huge influence on the Tabletop.

But all the Lords and Kings in Heroquest never existed in WH.
Even if places and named have some similiaries. But thats only a proof that the Games Workshop guys are not very imaginative and creative. They always recycle alot stuff. Its a bit like the rumor that the Warhammer Fantasy world is part of the 40k universe and Sigmar is a lost Primarch and all together playing Bloodbowl :)

Also, the first expansion of HeroQuest (called Kellar's Keep) comes with a map of the world and it is VERY similar to the Warhammer map:

I wouldn't bet on it. In the American version of HeroQuest the Necromancer is called Morkar and in the European he is called Morcar. It could be very well be the same person. GW has never confirmed or denied it.

Rogar in HeroQuest could also be Sigmar ;)

I think its more because GW never was a very creative Company. :)
But there is alot stuff that dont fit into Warhammer. Ever seen a Gargoyle or an Alb? ^^

Btw any of you had Spacequest? Or Starquest? One of the Space Marines group had the name GSG19 in the german version. You had that in english too?

Btw just read it that Morcars name in the USA was Zargon. Oo

Quote: Die vier Spieler spielen als Gruppe zusammen gegen den Spielleiter (welcher „Morcar“, den Bösen, verkörpert, in der nordamerikanischen Version „Zargon“ genannt)

Heroes Quest was good too. All the Games Workshop games are good.

Space Crusade was the Sci-Fi one.

I think that Heroquest was set in Warhammer 3rd ed (with Firmir) and Space Crusade in 40k 1st ed. Certainly a lot of fluff, as mentioned, wrapped across pretty well.

Heroquest was the first GW game I got, followed by Space Hulk (1st Ed). I painted up all the minis.... Of all my warhammer armies, I still have the orcs and goblins in storage... and at the back of the orc boyz, there's still a few orcs on moulded bases, waving flails around, from Heroquest.

Thinking about it, it was also my first experience of GMing a dungeon crawl, depending on how you want to look at that game :)

And I got Battlemasters years later. The minis from that ended up in one army or another.

Nice. The minis from HQ used to fit well with the WH armies :)

In germany the name of the Scifi game was Starquest. Came a bit after Heroquest. I really liked the Evil Robocop enemy Model.
