Bretonnian voices
Why are they so funny sounding? Bretonnian is supposed to be a feudal brutal power yet their voices are so effeminate...

They're comic book stereotype medieval France. They're going to sound a bit...soft. Its the trope.

You have to keep in mind The King Auther Mythos isn't just english myth they are still debating if it was France or England first who told the stories, but yeah they are going to sound like thus...

There's a third option and it's the same root myth cycle from post-Roman Britain transmitted from the 'Welsh' branch into 'English' literature and from 'Cornish' migration into Brittany, during the 6th century CE, for the 'French' version.. /boreoff

But Breton. Brittany. French accents because vaguely medieval France.

I think its alright that they are primarily French by culture and accent, but I do really hope they change their voices a bit.

Think of the French from Medieval 2. Some of their war-cries and belting out orders sounded intimidating, like any Military leader / officer should do.

In Total Warhammer at the moment, they all just sound pathetically wimpy and scared of daffodils.

'Sacre bleu! My knights vow! *whines* Nuuuuuuuu!'

It's just British/Games Workship humour in how the French sound. Kind of like how greenskins sound like the stereotype of English football hooligans. I'm not particularly keen on it - it is out of synch with Arthurian knights etc. But, hey ho.

I think the most interesting thing here is how we all associate certain ways of speaking as either masculine or feminine. In general it is assumed that the more posh/noble accents of the English and French are 'effeminate', despite the fact that historically this group has probably highest kill-to-death ratios of ANY group of humans anywhere on the planet.

I would have said it was probably due to the 'deepness' (or lack of) of one's voice; but this is also kind of silly. There are some very deep voiced 'posh' people who are nonetheless mocked for sounding like 'pansies', and very high-pitched voices from lower class areas (especially Liverpool and Birmingham, but non-English Londoners often too), yet these people are not regarded as feminine 'sounding'.

I imagine it comes down mostly to the creators of media hating the aristocracy of both Britain and France due to the fact that they were initially unable to take control of these countries because of them; so they resorted to undermining their masculinity with petty ridicule. We see them doing it again today; like with how they were mocking Trump for having small hands (implying a literal lack of manhood) or the rumours they spread about Hitler having only one testicle. These European hating banker types sure do like mocking the masculinity of their enemies.

Honestly I wish Empire was more German sounding. Franz sounds vaguely German, but it would be more imposing if the accent was more pronounced.

Does the Red Duke have a French accent? I'm imagining this hilarious Mashup of stereotypical French and Bella lugosi Vampire accent.

The Empire is based on the Holy Roman Empire (which became Germany 8 centuries later)

They speak German ja?

Mocking the 'masculinity' of your enemy predates any form of mass media, banks and even the concept of 'European' (if such a concept can even be truly said to exist). eg Caesar being called the Queen of Bithynia by political opponents in Rome.

Amused by the stretch to pull Trump into this though. How silly.

Oh lad, they've been around and vying for political power, and often sabotaging their oppoents; since before the time of Caesar. Here's some proof from Caesar's own times.

Cicero:

“The Jews belong to a dark and repulsive force. One knows how numerous this clique is, how they stick together and what power they exercise through their unions. They are a nation of rascals and deceivers.”

“Softly! Softly! I want none but the judges to hear me. The Jews have already gotten me into a fine mess, as they have many other gentleman. I have no desire to furnish further grist for their mills.”

Surely running out and declaring yourself an anti-semite defeats the purpose of all the euphemisms in your first post?

Regardless, nothing to do with this game. And I'm kind of done with this little chat already.
