What are the Hinterlands of Khuresh exactly?
This is something I've just noticed after looking at a world map of the Warhammer world. And I got to thinking

What are the Hinterlands of Khuresh exactly?

I originally thought that that was where the Kingdoms of Ind were, but then I realized that they weren't, and it just brings a few questions about it, like

What is that land and who or what are supposed to inhabit it?

Now I get that Ind is India, Cathay is China, and Nippon is Japan and all that, but what is Khuresh exactly?

And what are the Lost Isles of Elithis?

I'm sceptical of the validity of that information, because I just skimmed the 8th ed army book that it cites as a source and not once did I see Khuresh even mentioned in passing. Now keep in mind that it's entirely possible that I just simply missed it because it's a 500-ish page book and ain't nobody got time for that, but take that information as you will.

I suppose, It sites the 7th and 8th ed rulebooks as a source though I haven't seen the books myself.
I don't have the 7th ed book, but I obviously have the 8th and I don't even see a place where it COULD be mentioned let alone is.

You check on Warhammer Fantasy: Core Rulebook (8th Edition) pg. 161?

Ah there it is. That there is a map, and does in fact mark the two locations you mentioned.

Know anything about the Lost Isles of Elithis?
Heres the page on the lost Isles of Elithis if that is any help. http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Lost_Isles_of_Elithis

Huh. Interesting.

If they ever make a campaign map that far east, that could be a place where the High Elves could start out.

I'm gonna get accused of Necroposting :steamsad: Well if Hinterlands of Khuresh and the other far-eastern lands happens it wouldn't be until after TW:WH3 is done with and CA decides surprise us and do a 4th game in the series, currently they only have plans for a Trilogy...

Would be cool if a 4th game is a real possibility. I've heard people speculated on other forums that the Hinterlands of Khuresh would likely be fantasy medieval SE Asia (Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos roled into one). But If Warhammer Wiki is anything to go by and the lore there is official... I don't think it'll be medieval SE Asia.

From what I've gathered, the Khureshi Serpent-Nagas are more like the half snake half man like the Nagas from... Warcraft :steamfacepalm: but vampiric & evil. They're said to be extremely long lived and ruled over by the "Blood Naga Queen" (that's a Legendary lord right there)... To me they seem more like fantasy ancient Khmer Empire than medieval SE Asia. It's said that a Lost City of the Old Ones is buried in the deep Jungle (styled after Khmer ruins in SE Asia). The Hinterlands of Khuresh's are also said to be full of warpstones...

The following is my own speculation and expansion on what little lore we have is hinting at. CA could give them the background of being an earlier race created by the "Old ones" (since they seem similarish to Lizardmen) but it went wrong due to warpstone corruption. The old ones then went on and created the Lizardmen on "Dragon Isles" but the Nagas attacked and killed all the Slann mage-priests there which would explain why there are feral Lizardmen on the Dragon Isles... The old ones then went further to Lustria to create more Lizardmen where the Nagas couldn't follow or were not interested in following... It's a mysterious why the old ones didn't destroy the Nagas after they were corrupted by warpstone. Maybe the Old ones thought they would still be useful against the forces of Chaos but nolonger suitable as the Old ones chosen race? That would be a cool background for the Naga race! If I can make that up from the base lore, think what CA could do with the Dragon Emperor for Grand Cathay etc...

That does sound pretty interesting.

I would love to see what CA could do with many of the lesser factions of the Warhammer world.
