Still agonising over this?! Just read the skill descriptions and decide for yourself which part of the army is going to see more benefit. If you're expecting the greatswords and cavalry to do a lot of charging and killing, then get the skill which helps them do it better. Otherwise imperial gunnery works better for whittling down the enemy from range before they engage your forces in melee.
1. If you're Karl Franz you can spend one point in leader of men to get a huge boost to aura size.
2. If you're not Karl Franz and consistently win battles on the offensive, you'll get the "Good Attacker" line of traits which increases aura size and leadership effect during attacks. The boost gets as high as 50% at the maximum trait level which is more than enough to cover a front line with the lord alone.
