What are the best Empire Captain battle skills?

I'm thinking of giving the army headed by Balthasar Gelt an Empire Captain capable of fighting other generals. Any suggestions on what to do about his skill upgrades?

I focused on armor, defence, and health first then started focusing on melee and weapon strength stats after. Kept my captain on foot as well.

Honestly combat heroes like captain, thane and wight king are better off with things like more armor and health. They actualy perform far better when they are as tanky as they go.

Personally I find them much more effective outside the army. Their attack army ability can do some serious damage.

depends on hero

on karl franz i go the army trainer route (last tree), to get some nice passibe exp going to get my troops to rank 9 the fastest

on balthasar gelt i go for lord fighter, and get his entire combat tree. asmuch physical and missile resistance as possible. also a captain with good trait, like the one with +4 meelee attack +6 meelee defence. it may look small, but that's quite big in terms of gameplay
