Haha, well hopefully the pointy ears will get a bit less agressive in the next update.
Also worth to mention: i have to say Beastmen get atrittion in Norsca ... so helping early is impossible ... well ok you can use Beast Paths but thats not very helpful cause after destroying a town you cant move anymore and then you loose many troops.

It's not that there's no hope, it's just really hard since Chaos and Empire are opposing factions. Empire/Bretonnia would be a better co-op matchup, for example, or beastmen/chaos.
I haven't played a co-op game yet, so do you have to be allied in-game with your co-op partner? If not, you could just remain neutral in-game with your friend while coordinating with them over chat, and then ally up later on once you're stronger and can handle the diplo shock.
There are 2 modes. COOP and Head-to-head. It turned out pretty well when my friend played Skarsnik and i played as Archaeon. Diplomacy penalties are worth it when game final boss is on Your side. :) That's the main thing i've forgotten. It's not hopeless because of diplomacy. Who cares about diplomacy when harbringer of the end times covers Your flank and spits chaos corruption on Your nearest enemy's land, as long as he avoids walking on Yours. Very enjoyable actually. My friend doesn't complain about corruption at all, He's just glad that without having to defend my own cities, i can focus on covering his 6.
We tried that, it doesn't work well. Chaos needs time at north to prepare and not get raped by mortals on south. When we played together one of us wasn't able to awaken tribes and there weren't enough Norscan villages to feed both of us. It's cool in theory but just doesn't work well.
beastmen and chaos are the best team perfect for coop but better with the chaos ai because they are really powerful magical cheater with chaos invasions and sarthorael as friend.
the playable chaos warriors faction is really weak fight his own armys and will be hunt by sarthorael......oh and has no reinforcement also no invasions its feel like play the fake chaos faction.
