How do you use the Gyrobomber's gun?
Right clicking makes the gyrobomber fly above the target for easy bombing, alt right click sends it into melee. Positioning it so it can shoot enemies with fire at will enabled doesn't do anything. How do I order a gyrobomber to shoot a target with its gun?

It's a unit ability. Click on the GB unit card, and you'll see a bomb button above the unit portrait. You need to manually trigger its bomb, otherwise it'll only attack with that dinky nose gun it has. You get a limited number of bombs too, IIRC 4.

Edit: You were asking about that dinky nose gun. Just order the bomber to attack a unit like you normally would.

Like I said, that makes the gyrobomber fly above the target.

Clicking on the bomber and then holding your mouse on an enemy unit should give you a ranged attack cursor, as if you were attacking with archers or something. That's how it works in my game, so maybe you have a mod installed that affects behavior?

I'm testing on vanilla. The behavior is really inconsistent. Sometimes it uses its nose gun, but most of the time it flies over its target.

You might not be telling it to attack. If you right click a bunch on a target, sometimes it will register on the ground and it'll just move there instead of attacking, even though it looks like you thought you were telling it to attack. Only right click once, or twice, and it won't do that.

That's what I did; the behavior is inconsistent.

I have had the same problem with handgunners from the Empire? The rest of my ranged function but handgunners go to melee for some reason? funnily enough I did not have the issue with the gyrocopter though?

Well, if you hit "F" while having a normally ranged unit selected, it puts them into melee mode. Maybe you guys are "fat fingering" the key and pressing it on accident. Units in this mode will still use their ranged weapons if they are able to shoot them from where they are standing, but will charge into melee combat when you right-click them to attack an enemy.

I believe the only ways to tell if you are in melee mode; is if you select them and hold you curser over an enemy and it doesn't turn your mouse into a target icon, or if the button is slightly highlighted on the unit screen. It's a crossed swords icon near 'Guard mode' and other unit functions.

You can hit "F" a second time to bring them back into ranged mode, with the unit selected. Confirm it is back into ranged mode by hovering your cursor over an enemy and see if it turns into a target.

Hopefully this works, but idk. I can't replicate this in my own games, so I'm scratchin my head at what is causeing it. GL.
