I am trying to like this game but combat is awful
I am really trying to love this game and give it a chance.I played medivieal 2 total war for 2000 hours.(off steam) Loved shogun 2 total war.Played 500 hours napoleon total war.100 hours rome 2 and attilla. But this game i cant. The combat is too bad for me to deal with it.I agree there are beasts, flying creatures, giants bla bla bla but everytime they fight it is like a pillow fight.
Every units are just hitting eachother like rome 1 total war.

Even artillery is the worst. You see a smoke and bloods aaanndd units are vanished, they are gone. I havent used artillery at a siege. But i saw videos when they destroy a wall there is a smoke and wall is gone.Graphcis are blurry and not really good on ultra settings.(gtx1080)(best graphics are still shogun 2 total war for me they kinda screw it after shogun 2)

And those immortal heroes. You hit them it takes 10 minutes to actually kill them.Gosh.
I mean if the combat was good i wouldnt care how long it takes.
The combat just like 2 robots are punching eachother.I cant express how bad it is.

That's literally how Medieval II worked. Matched Combat, like in Shogun 2 or Atilla, requires a lot of processing power, which requires stronger systems. now use that with multiple different animation pairings, Human vs Orc, Human vs Dwarf, Dwarf vs Orc, that alone requires more power than Atilla, now add Beastmen, Vampires, Elves, and Chaos and all the various monsters and it just becomes too much for the average rig to deal with. That's why you have the current combat system, because you wouldn't be able to run the other one.

Don't know what your problem, I have a lot of experience in strategy game and the animation of this game it's pretty awesome. each faction has its own animation, charge is dynamic, only the lord and hero animation are a little clunky, but they do the job well. if you want more realistic combat animation I suggest you using the mod. Personally, I use animated combat

I dont think there are animation pairings...

If were talking clicky blob fests, then sure, I agree, if not then well...sorry? Takes a lot of cpu to do match fighting. The animations alone look really cool though.

Ive tried to suggest them to make new battle-engine, something like Combat Mission would be great and fit for TW fans, imho.

New battle-engine, World War 3 and TV-advertisement with Steam Machine bundle = Win. Quaranteed 2mill pre-sales, 5 mill in couple year. Biggest and most succesful TW yet!

In lizardmen roster video , CA said they will rework pace of battle for more tactical , maybe help ..
Although I love the game I do see the OP's point, some of the combat does look a bit off but I think it's just a limitation of tech and also the shear cost of having to match up all individal one-v-one animation per unit.
You get used to it though and a lot of the time I'm playing the game with my view distance far out so I can see as many units as I can, only occassionally zooming in to watch a nice cav charge or find a hero unit in the scrum or see a volley of arrows land on some sheildless unit etc.
Not sure what you mean about it being blurry? Seems fine to me, anyway, I get my 1080Ti delivered in a couple of hours so will check again for blurryness, never noticed it on my 980Ti.

Didn't they say they're moving to a new engine with the next historical title? I'm not positive, but I could have sworn I read that somewhere.

Do you have a link? That would be simply awesome, no doubt, the right move for the series. New battle-engine could unite players from the past 20 year of Total War.

Should not be blurry at all, just played it on everything ultra @ 1440p, I had most setting on high/ultra with my 980ti, and neither card made the game look blurry. I think you may have a scale option switched to the wrong setting.

Make sure you have resolution scale at 100%. otherwise game will look blurry. It's in advanced graphics settings

That's quite odd with the bluriness, I've never encountered it. Can you post a picture of it?

As for matched combat, that would be impossible to do.

I dont think there are animation pairings...

Not in this game, with a few special animations like a Lord/Hero leaping into and impaling Monstrous Infantry on his sword, or certain flying monsters grabbing and dropping guys. But in Atilla you'll notice people attacking and blocking as they lock together in 1v1 combat. People have had mixed opinions on it since Shogun 2. Some think it's dumb, others that it looks cool.

Pretty sure it is, I've seen battles in Medeival II and they seem to function the same, but you know without monsters and what not, guys stabbing at each other's direction and dudes dropping.

Okey i fixed it.But still shogun 2 units look more polished.I am not saying it looks graphical better.Anyway.If they fix little bit combat with a patch or 2 it is actually a cool game.
