Contracts seem ... hard.
So, I'm in the first area and I'm leveling up my smiths before moving on. I noticed that at some point contracts stopped being possible to complete. Right now my smiths are all level 5 everything in the first rank, and about level 4 in the second rank. Also, I've got one spud at level 13-ish merchant. I think my explorer is at level 8 or so.

So the question is what determines which contracts I get? Is it just by total number of levels gained? That seems... bad. Not all levels being equal and all. Is it just because I've overstayed my welcome in the first area? Will I ever do contracts again, or are they just no longer viable?

They are, I tried contracts a few times and failed so then just left it till the end game (you can still do them and even with 5 max smiths i found easy/medium ones hard sometimes and failed), it doesn't have any real effect on story/achievements it seems. Better spent building a weapon and selling it than doing a contract.

Well, the thing is that at first I was filling them no problem. Then eventually the system just... stopped generating contracts I even had a chance to fulfill. That's what makes me curious about the method of generation. If it's just totaling up all my levels... that's not really a useful metric, nu?

I agree, and the moment you move on to the next area they seem to become impossible that I don't even click on them as they seem to out of my league. Then again when I move on I still have my lvl 5 smiths?? so I don't know

Hey guys,

Thank you for reaching out to us and letting us know you are having issues with the contracts. The way the contracts are generated and balanced depend on time passing. Therefore, the longer you spend in Region 1, the harder the contracts get. Hopefully this gives you guys some insight on how the contracts work!

I don't do contracts, they aren't worth it to me. Those random quests people give, and contests are the best. I haven';t done any contracts and I have 200,000 in the third area.

Yes, only the few easy contracts at the start are doable, the rest is simply impossible. Same for the heroes who come knocking on the door, they ask for things that are possible only much later in the game.

Apparently this patch was supposed to fix it, but it's not working on my savegame? Anyone else's experiences?

I took some time grinding my smiths' levels, and selling lots of weapons. So I got to the end stage of the game around year 9. Contracts are pretty much impossible.

My 2 main problems with them are you can't boost the item, and the requests seem to have little to no weapon growth so even maxed out Master Smiths can't fulfill the contracts if you've been grinding in the area for 'too' long.

To me contracts are mostly a way for non-active smiths to pass the time. Since your shop has to always have a smith on duty I figure a contract is a way to still make them profitable but it seems like you need the majority of your smiths to complete them so I never bother as it's better to just make weapons or fill special orders to gain money and fame.
