Steering Wheel Not Recognized (SRW-S1)
I have the SRW-S1 motion steering wheel and I can't seem to get the game to recognize it. I've tried launching the game with controller or with steering wheel with no luck. I also tried mapping inputs in the config launcher but it won't see the tilt steering or paddles for accelerate and brake. It sees SOME of the wheel... I can map face buttons in the config launcher but not the steering or throttle.

Most other games can always find it as a generic steering wheel.

I am not familiar with this wheel. Sorry. Im looking into it now.

The Steering, brake and throttle MUST be an axis. You can assign a keyboard key as well. You cannot map a button or switch to an axis though.

What is tilt steering?

ok I got it.... Just figured out what controller you are talking about. I will look into this. I believe it works similar to a "phone style" controller with the tilt steering. I have not had this question before and I will look into it for you.

I will report back here what I find.

Yeah, steering is motion controlled but it's meant to be read as a generic steering wheel on an axis. Usually if I have to map it in a game it shows up as A Axis + and - or something similar but in this game the steering axis and throttle / brake axis just don't show up at all for this wheel. It was made for sim raceway but should be recognized by any game (has so far aside from this one). Throttle and Brake are on paddles that function like console triggers.

the SRW wheel was made for SimRaceWay racing...(this really doesn't qualify as a real sim at this point), but "might" work for other games. it isn't specifically designed to be a sim wheel, this is obvious by it's lack of a mount for a column and actual foot pedals.

There's some settings on that wheel that you might want to look at. there's a dial for range of motion, should be set to 360. (this is the left knob of the three at the bottom)

A Friend of mine had one and we had nothing but trouble getting it work with LFS, AC, and Race07

He ended up ditching the thing into the trash can and bought a G27 on fleabay for $75

It was dirty, but it worked and had force feedback.

He also ended up building a sim chair out of PVC on the cheap.

Might be another option for you, considering the entire scope of this sim is to entail reality via FFB :)

In the meantime maybe you can post some info about how that wheel is set up within your operating system, and maybe some operating system specs to help everyone try and assess your problems with said wheel until you can get a new one :)

What operating system do you have:?
Is the wheel using mfg drivers, or windows generic drivers:?
are you using any kind of joystick profiling software for that wheel:?

Win 7 64 Bit
It is plug and play so I think it's a windows driver
No profiling software.

I game at a standing desk so a FFB wheel will be problematic because I can't use foot pedals.

Honestly, I've loved this steering wheel so far. It's worked in every game I've tried it so far except this one: Dirt 3, Dirt Rally, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Project Cars, Sim Raceway, Game Stock Car Extreme, Kart Racing Pro, etc.

Under devices you should see your controller. Does it tell you what the controller name is?

Also if you right click the controller there you should see a choice for: Game Controller Settings

If you select that you should be able to view all of your axis and button settings.

Play through those as well as calibration settings, then my suggestion is to launch the game again and try to remap all of the settings.

Sometimes you have to map the axis more than once for it to take the right one.

Let me know what you find.

SRWheel in devices. SRW-S1 under installed game controllers. Steering, throttle and brake all show up in Axes under testing but in D Series they simply don't show up at all to be recognized or mapped.

So if you open the launcher, and select the input tab and double click an item you see the message that says to move the desired input or press escape.

You then turn the wheel and nothing happens?

Please don't take me as aiming anything I am just trying to make sure we cover all bases.

The input configuration is not in game, it's in the launcher prior to the game.

Correct. When I double click on an item that says to move desired input or press escape nothing happens. I can't bind in steering or throttle / brake. I'm able to bind my other buttons (the SRW-S1 has an ungodly amount of buttons on the front) but I can't bind in any axes (tilt steering axes and throttle / brake trigger-paddle axes.

Is there a way you could post a screenshot of the game controller settings window from your windows devices. I'm starting to wonder if they are even axis at all, I don't have one in front of me ATM or I would look myself.

Steering, Throttle, and Brake are all Axes. In other games you can tweak the linearity and deadzones of the tilt steering and paddles.

Then I have 17 buttons for other things as well as a dpad.

Ok steering appears to be a joy axis. Similar to the hat on a 360 controller. and the brake and throttle appear to be sliders.

I have been doing some homework and apparently this was an issue for other games as well like Grid 2 never quite got this wheel to work right.

based on the way the input menu is I don't think it should matter what buttons map to what as long as an axis is used for an axis and a button for a button.

Also since this wheel is now a dead product it's probably going to be near impossible get mfg support.

I do have an older joy pad with a hat I can test to see if it also isn't recognized.

Hopefully all of this will help the dev find a cure for your poison :)

I settled on this wheel because like I mentioned, I have a standing desk and options are INCREDIBLY limited if you don't want to use pedals. If there was a compact FFB wheel that had paddles on the back for gas and brake like this one I'd be all over it but I seem to be a niche customer.
Violentmouse May 19, 2015 @ 5:37pm
lol yes very niche.

I found my old joy pad and it's the same brand as your wheel:

http://tinypic.com/m/iwll5h/2

it did not load with specific drivers but instead as generic joystick.

I tested it with this game and surprisingly it works, but I had to change the mode to analog. in the default digital state of the controller the axis hats worked like buttons. I wonder if there is a setting on your wheel like that?

if you look at the pic of the controller you can see the mode button next to the light.

Once I did that it worked fine.

here is the controller properties (similar to yours)

http://tinypic.com/m/iwll47/2

I did verify that the mode has to be pressed, otherwise the axis reports as a button press with no gradient. Once I did that the hats work as axis and I can set my inputs and I even attempted to try a race..

The truck does respond to inputs, even if my joy pad skills are lacking.

So outside of that if you don't have some mode options I'm at a loss on this one, hopefully the dev comes up with something I might have overlooked, after all dev's are dev's for a reason.
