What determines the "Main" general or officer of an army?
Hi,

I cannot seem to figure out what determines the main general of a unit. I thought it was rank, then LEA, then INT, and now I have no idea. The manual just says "the main general will be determined automatically" - so not very helpful.

I think order is:
1. Ruler
2. Your advisers (if you ruler). Probably there is order like main/war advisor
3. Order by rank they have (which you give to them)
Like Hanzo said.

You are always in control of your own character's assigned unit, even if someone else (AI) controls the other units. It can be challenging when working under someone else. There are 3 stages to being an underling. Early game, you will fall under someone else's command. Mid-game, you are Governor of a city and usually in command of forays from your city, if you choose to join them and micro-manage combat. Late game, you are Viceroy and automatically assume command when you arrive in battle, unless you are joining another viceroy who got there first. You always have the option to just play on the strategic map, but there are usually many fewer wounded and casualties if you use the tactical map.

I would say, other than what Hanzo noted, is that there are ranked titles as well. So if you are the same prestige rank, the one with the higher title would take charge. Titles are awarded by the Emperor, and the Ruler will have the highest title granted to your faction. When he gets a new title, he will pass the old title to one of his subordinates. If you do well, you will likely be his #2 with the second best title. For factions like Liu Bei, his "Brothers" may be given higher titles than you, and will also likely be Viceroys.

I'm not sure if Title takes precedence over Prestige ranking, but it isn't likely that you will have a higher title than someone else with a higher rank within your faction.
