Basicly this.. If you like ROTK setting/characters you will probably enjoy this game fine, if you don't it'll feel less fun.
Personally I've been enjoying it just as much as I might ROTK 11 (which is my personal favorite). It's a little odd at first in how it restrains you, but once you get the right mindset about how to play its done pretty well. I am roughly 12hours into one scenerio + most of the hero mode stages done.
I think a lot of complaints on the game are,
1: price (What KOEI game doesn't have these same people whining about it? Not to defend KOEI really but they are always there)..
2: Its not ROTK 11 and its not really ROTK 10.. Apparently 10 had some features this doesn't that people miss (I didn't play 10 so I can't really say).. and it is very different to ROTK 11.
If your unsure, watch some videos of it, and see if it looks like a game you can get 50$ worth of enjoyment out of.. If you think so, then you can always try it for 2 hours and do a refund if you hate it.
I think a lot of people are upset because Koei don't release these games very often, and the game doesn't need much to make it the best in the series (but note that it does need something - it's not as good as it could be yet).
I bought it, thinking I might refund it, but kept it. I have enjoyed it thus far, though I really hope Koei release more DLC for it.
Not just bugs. The game could do with more features/content (for example, we really need a "Lonely Legacy of the Dead" 253AD scenario).
But yes, it is a good game. It just needs more work if it is to become best in the series.
Overall it is more enjoyable than NA:SOI to me. NA:SOI is just grinding (capture cities --> improve --> build up troops --> capture cities --> rinse & repeat). Soon I become bored of it.
metacritic is actually going up atm too.
Also, most of those people like to play the big 3, I tend to like playing the lower league and enjoy it.
Same as NA:SOI, I play the hardest guy and win, and you feel you did something :D. This is similar but harder.
