As for changban specifically, i know, that "resolution at guandu" needs to happen moving liu bei to Xinye (i believe). Then the three visits need to happen. Then the rest should fall into place (up to battle of jiangling), as long as cao cao and sun quan and liu biao still exist.
Now i dont know if these can be bypassed, say eg (if you play as liu bei , skip reolution of guandu and liberate xinye an alternative means.
I do know that some of the events can be skipped in this manner. I have noticed also alternative versions of some events, such as, (example, if zhang liao isnt employed by cao cao, Xu huang takes his place in the Guan Yu surrenders event)
So in theory, for battle of changban, i do believe. the perequisites would have to be :
-liu bei rules xinye
-cao cao is still a force (so xu shu can join, triggering three visits)
-alternatively, Zhuge Liang is in your force (time sensitive)
-yuan shao doesnt exist (i only say this because my resolution of guandu happened immediately after cao cao wiped him out)
-liu biao is still a force, ( i believe he needs to pass away and liu cong is the succesor, this may be time sensiteve, not sure which year either)
-Mi Shi is alive, (for zhao yuns part in battle of chang ba)
I hope that helps .. i may interpret more on this later, this is easier if i have the game in front of me. I do have a save file in this area as well i will try to reference on that
I also know more on the later events.
I am also researching the real history of three kingdoms as of later phases, for example after the formation of three kingdoms and the deaths of Liu Bei, and Cao Cao, where Sima Yi and Caos are taking control. In this part, the game has no events, Koei showed so unprepared and irresponsible of not having events in this important section of the game.
So, i have managed to create some of them, such as Jiang Wei's defection, i have in mind to create the incident at Gaoping Tombs, where Sima Yi gains control of Wei in some manner, also Zhong Hui's rebellion in 264 i think, or some relationship changes between the rulers of Wei, the dethronization of Wei lords from the Simas etc. etc. but once again i need to check the real history of the conditions of those events.I have found a timeline in wikipedia and i am trying from there to implement those to as much as the editor lets us do... If someone could know what could 'connect' between the game conditions and the real history so for me to be easier to create those events, it would be helpful!!

As for de-throning an emperor.. there is quite a few of in game events involving this.. I'm pretty sure you can do it.. along with relocating/killing the emperor as well.. so I truly think so.. I will look through and confirm when I can
Only way I know to become emperor is rule enough land.. or make an event that takes the city holding the emperor.. overthrow as the choice
