To fully give you a recommendation, I have to ask, do you prefer to play as a ruler or an officer?
Then a second question that I have to ask is do you play real time strategy games or turn based ones.
Each game in the Romance series does like to experiment. While VI (my personal favorite) may have turn based strategy, XI has real time strategy. In officer play, VIII is turn based while 13 is real time.
The patches dont work with these versions on Steam?
As for the first question, i think i would be more interested in playing as an officer, being the ruler in Nobunaga's Ambition is fun, but the videos i saw on youtube make the whole "be an officer" thing really cool.
As for being turn based or real time, i am good either way.
Then I would recommend VIII. Not too many videos concerning gameplay, and it was the last Officer based game that supported up to 8 players. You will get hours of fun out of the game instead of tedious busy work that appears to have clogged up 13. It is especially fun with multiple players and it is the first in the series that will allow you to actually marry famous ladies of the land (though I will concede that in the PS2 version, you don't get to raise kids like you do in XIII. That is because the PUK did not transfer over to the only known English release of the game.)
I read about it, it seems to conflict with the basic Steam verification, i wonder if Steamless would fix it (or any normal crack for that matter). Koei doesnt use Denuvo (not even in their latest games), so i dont think thats the problem.
Also, i know i can use emulators folks, but playing a strategy game on a controller (or using a keyboard in the emulator) is just so awkward that i seriously cant get into.
From what i gather, only RoTK X onwards have proper english patches for their respective PC versions, so i suppose i would need to settle with one of those =/
Sure you can start with 13 but it would be hard to appreciate the older ones if you do that.
In my opinion all RTK is worth playing, simply because there's not much option if you like these kind of games. Even the really bad one like 12, I get some hours of enjoyment on that.
Disclaimer: I have only played rotk 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 + puk, 12 + puk, 13 + puk, nobu 11, 12, 13 + puk, 14 + puk, sengoku risshiden, and 15 (taishi).
Don't play 12 i warn you
If you want to play ruler, play ROTK XI.
I haven't played VIII, though.
KOEI should start translating their games in English especially with China's three hours limit a week for minors. Although I'm assuming the major demographics of this game are adults, I played ROTK VII when I was a teen.
I belive the 3 hour limit is for online games (think MMOs and celphone Gacha games), so ROT3K and many other games are ok with minors.
But yeah, i wish they would translate the older games (if they even have the capabilities to do so, maybe they lost the source code at this point).
