-Tong Gate: The important ones are Ma Teng's force, Cao Cao's force and Zhang Lu's force. Officers are probably Ma Teng, Ma Chao, Han Sui (who should all be in Ma Teng's force), Cao Cao and Xun You or Jia Xu (They should all be in Cao Cao's force. One of the strategists is important since one of them makes the suggestion of tricking Ma Chao, but I cant remember which one). Zhang Lu needs to exist, since after Ma Chao's force is eliminated he will become an officer of Zhang Lu and its a requirement to properly trigger Yi Subjugation.
-Yi Subjugation: Liu Bei force, Liu Zhang force and Zhang Lu force. Important officers are Ma Chao, Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, Liu Zhang and Pang Tong. Probably Zhang Ren as well.
Dont quite know about the other ones. As far as I know, Chu Si Biao is the last event of the game. Last time I tried to see if there is anything after that I let the scenario play for about 8 years and the only thing that happened was Shu slowly but surely losing to Wei and Wu not doing a damned thing.
Overall, the earlier it is when you start playing, the less likely it is that events down the road will trigger in a reliable manner. Which force you are in can also have drastic effects on events. As an example, usually when I start as an officer under Dong Zhuo in the Anti Dong Zhuo Coalition scenario, Ma Tengs force is pretty much guaranteed to be eliminated, which will obviously interfere with events down the line. In the end, trying to preserve the flow of history can get way too difficult to the point where its honestly not worth the bother. In my Anti Dong Zhuo Coalition example, I tried to save Ma Tengs force by using my privilege to force a truce between Dong Zhuo and Ma Teng, only for Dong Zhuo to then order me to destroy Zhang Lu.
@SpwnMoarOverlrds: There is an event in which Cao Cao defeats Lu Bu, its just tough to trigger so it rarely happens unless you intervene. Cao Cao in general will gets a lot of power way too quickly, so you cant rely on him to NOT destroy smaller forces until their events trigger.
TLDR: Events will break, and its mostly Cao Cao's fault
So, i tried to play a little with the event editor. The main factor that takes away aaall the fun it could have, is that you CANNOT CREATE A NEW FORCE. And that's a shame. Also in the 'results' section you have not many options as in the 'conditions' section, and i really can't understand why...you could re-create history more easily and with a greater depiction of reality...As for my game, i have tried to re-create some events (just like the Yan Liang/Wen Chou death, to work WITH THE HISTORIC ones and tried to put the randomness of 'chance' in some of them.
For example, we are in 192 (I think), and events happen this way. (force trend, historical and historical events on). I take an original officer and sit there, watching things how they will play..
- (custom) 192 Dong Bai leaves Dong Zhuo, as a free
- (custom) 193 Dong ZHuo's force disbands and he always joins Zhang Lu with his family. SO i manage to save them all, but i don't get the later events of Wan castle (because Zhang Ji never creates his kingdom,. so Zhang Xiu or something never kills Dian Wei and Cao Ang. So I manage to keep important officers alive through the game already!
- (custom) 194 Zhang Yang dies, Lu Bu becomes ruler, pink coloured now and transfers directly to Xiao Pei so, i detour some historical events (which would play otherwise anyway) . Also Liu Bei absorbs Tao Qian force normally as it would happen in history and Yuan Shao takes PingYuan. It's funny that Liu Bei was always in the verge of being defeated, battling with....YUAN SHAO!!?? But in the end always the time for the event reaches and it's triggered to save him. Lu Bu and Cao Cao ally Liu Bei.
- (custom) 194 Lu Bu tricks Liu Bei into fighting Yuan Shu. Liu Bei has the OPTION not to go for Yuan Shu, but seeing his vast army approach flee for LangYe and Yuan Shu takes the city. A more perplexed situation in central plains, early in the game and a new history route. Otherwise, Liu Bei can go for Yuan Shu, so he loses the city of Xia Pi and LangYe from Lu Bu, but Lu Bu gives him Xiao Pei (and not Qiao, i can't understand why they give him Qiao in the historical event). Also Cao Cao absorbs the annoying Kong Zhou and Kong Rong as it normally happened. Lu Bu allies Yuan Shu and Cao Cao allies Liu Bei. 2 vs 2 (In the meantime, Yuan Shu defeats Zhang Chao). ALSO CAO CAO ALLIES MA TENG, ZHANG LU, LIU ZHANG (also through edit mode, to lengthen the aliance time), because he expands West and he goes everytime in war with one or two of them
4 years of wars here and there, and some Wu events, i don't remember which ones. Yuan SHao and Cao Cao are still friends. Lu Bu and Yuan Shu vs Cao Cao and Liu Bei mainly.
- 198 September (custom) EVENT CHANCE 83%. Lu Bu gets captured and decides to choose. Cao Cao or Liu Bei. Whichever his decision is, his force is destroyed, Cao Cao takes Langye, Xia Pi and allies Liu Bei who has Xia Pi only, and by that time most of times, Cao Cao starts war with Yuan Shu and leaves him with Guangling only or destroys him completely.
-198 November (Custom) EVENT CHANCE 50%, Lu Bu dies inevitably. So, i have given all the possibilities to happen to Lu Bu. Either he chooses, either he dies, either he lives and we learn later WHAT IF, or there is always the option for the history to continue with Lu Bu following Liu Bei or Cao Cao
- 199 (custom) Guan Yu surrenders to Cao Cao, Liu Bei goes directly to Xinye. Cao Cao allies aaall the border, with Yuan Shao as the only unallied force. In this time, i tend to ally also Yuan Shao with everyone as they go for a coalition against him and finally go up and take some cities of him. Imagine a vast yellow part of North with tiny red and green splashes ;p
- 200 (custom) EVENT CHANCE 80%. Yan Liang/Wen Chou killed by Guan Yu
- 200 (Custom) Guan Yu has the option to stay with Cao and fight or return to Liu Bei South.
4 years of Cao Cao and Yuan Shao fight, with Yuan Shao WINNING!!!
- 204 (custom) Cao Cao absorbs 4-5 lands of Yuan Shao, kills some of his officers etc. etc. it's the Guan Du re-created. With the same conditions ( so it can easily be avoided if for example Xu You is dead or not with Yuan Shao).
At this time, Cao Cao is allied with everyone, because in some of my tests, he was leaving Yuan SHao alone with 2-3 cities and went for a massive attack to Ma Teng!!:/
- 207 (custom) EVENT CHANCE 50%- Yuan Shang and Yuan Tan die, and Cao Cao destroyes the remnants (as it happened). If it won't it may hamper the next ones....
And now is the good part...
- ALL THE EVENTS IN THREE VISITS PART ARE AAALL PLAYING NORMALLY AS THEY WOULD!!! Lu Bu is alive, Yan Liang and Wen Chou may be alive, Dong Zhuo and family with Zhang Lu and aall history is unfolding.Zhuge Liang joining Liu Bei, Chang Ban and all this chain are normally appearing!! ( i tried in some tests to make them happen, for example moving Jiang Gan (or sth like this) to Cao Cao, because he was with Sun Quan and it couldn't trigger the Chi Bi event. So all events are triggering up to when Liu Bei takes JiangLing i think from Wu.
And that's why i asked about the Tong Gate. I found out by testing, that Ma Teng should have all the 4 cities on the left, Cao Cao has the city in front of Tong Gate (can't remember name) All Ma Teng and sons be alive (something that it's real based on the previous history i wrote), Han Sui in Ma Teng, Jia Xu with Cao Cao and it happens!!!
Now i am testing the later events, because i have created also Guan Yu's death with a choice, an event in which Liu Bei marries Sun Shang Liang and Jing gets separated between them etc.. Also Pheasant Pavillion played normally!! Also i am waiting to see if the Liu Bei's taking of Yi province will trigger (thank you for your help in that!!). And for the end, if Guan Yu dies, Yan Liang and Wen Chou remember Liu Bei's help and come to his aid!!
So we come in a situation of a real depiction of history and we have important officers alive. Lu Bu probably? Yan Liang and Wen Chou probably? Dong Zhuo probably who will join one of the three kingdoms eventually with his family? An all out war in a real history basis. So, we come to the later part, in which i created some events for example
- Jiang Wei's defection to Shu
- Sima Yi's rivalry with Cao Shuang and the GaoPing tombs event in which Sima Yi takes the reign
- Zhuge Dan's rebellion
- Sima Yi's making fun of Zhuge Ke in Shou Chun and taking all the pride
- Zhong Hui and Jiang Wei's fall
etc etc
I have even created Meng Huo in Shi Xie's position and moved the rest of the barbarians in his force removing Shi Xie's family. But Shi Xie has to die. Little in comparison with what i have done so far....:/
So, from the things i noticed so far... you can't move officers between forces, so you cannot make Liu Bei move to Yuan Shao and later create his force in XinYe so to alter some middle events, it's a real shame you can't do this. Also one cannot re-create Y.Shao's kids separate force. I think that event editor in general is a good option for someone that likes to create his own history, especially by putting the power of choice and the element of randomness by retaining the historic route, like me. But in the end, one could always do better things with the editor. I still hope for a PUK 2, but i doubt it will happen...
Lol there IS an event for it. The condition for it to trigger is kind of a mess though. But most often forgotten is requirement that Lu Bu be allied to Yuan Shu I think.

EDIT 2024-May-18: Lu Bu's death event
ok the event trigger is pretty messy. l think it's the hardest one to trigger, so it's very reccomended you enable in-game edit. This is what I remember so far (triggered it years ago so I might forgot bits of it):
1. Yuan Shu allied with Lu Bu
2. Yuan Shao allied with Cao Cao
3. Yuan Shao control Beihai (Yuan Shao adjacent to Yuan Shu???, also Lu Bu will try to seize control of Beihai)
4. Lu Bu control Xiaopei???
5. I think Liu Bei also have to control Qiao? (by historical event, it was given to him by Cao Cao after Lu Bu's betrayal). Not quite sure what happens if Lu Bu conquer Qiao under Liu Bei (easy to happen if you invest in Lu Bu).
6. trigger date after 195? or was it 198? probably 196?
7. I might miss more conditions...
You also have to control the force balance, i.e if you play as free officer merchant, don't overinvest in any of the forces or the balance will break, e.g Lu Bu will conquer Beihai instead. Lu Bu and Cao Cao will send offensives against each other, so keeping the balance is reaaallly hard. It's simpler to just never invest in any of the two forces, even if you sacrifice your investment income.
Also you can remove Gao Shun and Chen Gong from Lu Bu (e.g as your comrade in free officer mode) to save them, otherwise they die with Lu Bu. Tested it, and the Lu Bu death event trigger just fine, minus the subevent where both are executed (just few lines of dialogues).
As for the trigger, it's best if you have Lu Bu's scenario dlc pack (it's not free). If nothing goes wrong, the event will soon trigger (at least if you are not officer under Lu Bu. How do I know this without having the dlc? Well just say I tried it before buying this game before.

EDIT 2024-May-18: Guan Yu's death
the only thing I know is that Lu Meng (193 Runan) need to be under Sun Quan force. Wonder if all Liu Bei's 5 tiger generals also need to be completed. Also Liu Bei likely has to control the 2 provinces (forgot the name. looking up wikipedia it's Jing and Yi).
