When I have the option to pick either commerce boost or commercial upgrade the boost makes the max stat go higher and the upgrade makes it go up faster when I send officers on commerce missions? Are there any numbers on this yet for each one (S) (M) and (L)? Also if I go for culture boost does that mean if I get to 7000 culture so can pick a 7th city tech and 8th if I get to 8000?

In my experience, the Farming/Commercial boosts go something like this small 500, medium 750 and large 500. There is no cultural boost and you can only have 6 technologies per city this of courses leads to having cities with technology/ies that you may not want due to the A.I (remember you get a say in what your governors research not what the opposing forces do).

I recommend trying Hero Mode as it serves as tutorial for a lot of the games features and learn some of the 3 kingdoms history sadly without DLC Hero Mode ends at Guandu. The DLC aren’t needed as what they teach you is multitasking and some advance tactics, for example some of the later chapters are Zhuge Liang’s Northern Campaigns where you play as Shu and are tasked with attacking key Wei cities Shu is both outnumbered and lacks the technology to face Wei in battle (Wei has elite troops Shu has heavy) what the game teaches you is the importance of pincer attacks and coordination of your units.

You can find video walkthroughs of each chapter on Youtube to get an idea of what you may want to try during the later game (when there is only 3 or 4 forces left).
