Does this game have an engaging story?

I've never played a Monster Hunter game, but I've played Gods Eater Burst (game in the Monster Hunting genre) and it has a somewhat decent story with a colorful cast of characters that interact quite a bit.

So, does Toukiden have a storyline or is it nonlinear with a minor storyline? Thanks!

The story is done well, its no God Eater with plot twists or sad moments but the cast has personality and there will be a few chuckles, especially in the Kiwami expansion

Yeah, story-wise it never really feels like your character is part of the main group. It's like you're just some outsider watching in compared to something like God Eater or Freedom Wars.

I balme the cutscenes for not showing your character in them and just have the npcs talking to the camera instead...

There's like this...disconnect or something

for a monster hunter style game is story is good imo, especially the Kiwami section of the game.

I found the story great. The little side dialogues are there to get more out of it and side missions etc.
