Garfield Kart

Garfield Kart

Invalid Error?
Start up the game, get this:

"DirectX9 GPU (Shader Model 2.0) is required.
Your GPU (Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family)
only supports Shader Model 2.0"

See where the error actually makes no sense?

Why does it tell me that it requires something that I already have, and then not run at all?

Don't tell me to upgrade; that's not feasible, and all comments like that will be ignored UNLESS THEY PROVIDE A MEANS TO DO SO THAT I CAN MANAGE.

are you able to run other DirectX9 games? Also are you on the multiplayer beta?

1) Yes.
2) Tried both, got the same error AFTER I managed to get the file the game wanted that opting into the beta removed from the directory.

Try launching the game with -force-opengl in the launch options

In your library, select this game and then Properties->SET LAUNCH OPTION. Then enter '--force-opengl'. And don't set lowest resolution or you'll have a black screen. The controls will probably reset each time you start the game - very poorly designed and broken. Don't waste your time with it - I did and regret:steamfacepalm: Get RC Cars instead.

RC Cars works great with a steering wheel and analog pedals and gearbox. (And it's way cheaper than GK...)

I'll definitely go check out RC Cars. (Steam Wallet funds are lacking at the present)

That's a good idea - RC Cars is a *very* solid game, very well done. You will not want to even think about Garfield Kart when you start playing RC Cars.... But since you do own the game, you might still try to run it with OpenGL rendering (go to Properties->SET LAUNCH OPTIONS and write --force-opengl; I don't remember if it's one or two hyphens - i.e., '-' or '--', so try '--force-opengl' and '-force-opengl'). Maybe it will work for you, at least you will check it out - how bad it is (seriously, I finished a few championship cups and I'm not impressed, I wanted to return the game but Steam didn't refund).

By the way, do you know about the RVGL project? It's a fan project to revive Acclaim's Re-Volt racing game. Their web page is https://rvgl.re-volt.io/ . You can get the game base files (they are also recreating the base files to be opensource freeware!) and the new fan made implementation of the game for Windows, Linux and Android! Definitely check it out, it's an awesome game. It has full gamepad support even on Android - I played it, if you have questions ask me. You can play over internet or solo, many options! Check it out now, if you haven't yet, Re-Volt has great physics and everything. You'll love it!

I forgot if the OpenGL command is '--force-opengl' or '-force-opengl'; one or two hyphens, you can enter both at once or try separately to be sure. On the web I see everywhere with one hypher: '-force-opengl'.

Another GREAT old racing game is called "Big Scale Racing". It was developed by BumbleBeast (https://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/big-scale-racing/screenshots/gameShotId,40676/ and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Scale_Racing). You can download a free demo and see if you can play it: https://www.gamepressure.com/download.asp?ID=1596 or https://www.fileplanet.com/archive/p-20065/Big-Scale-Racing. Definitely give this one a try, I think you'll love it. It was my most favorite RC racing game, I still think about it fondly.

(You can also get the original Re-Volt game demo and try it: https://download.cnet.com/Re-Volt-demo/3000-7513_4-10030315.html or https://archive.org/details/Re-Volt, but it might not work, so RVGL is your better bet).

And yet another great old classic is E-Racer by Rage: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-racer . It's a more "serious" in attitude game, about normal racing (tuned) cars. Check it out as well, because it's an old Classic and might also work fine on your PC/laptop. The demos can be downloaded from https://www.gamepressure.com/download.asp?ID=531 or https://download.cnet.com/eRacer-updated-demo/3000-2115_4-10059684.html . Here are some screenshots of the game: https://www.gamepressure.com/games/screenshots_list.asp?ID=520#scr4363 .
