Custom Action Battle System
I've seen some tutorials out there before about creating an Action Battle System along the lines of Legend of Zelda. While that is awesome, is there any possible way to create a system that allows NPC followers to fight alongside you?

It's very complicated, since you can't easily program in pathfinding, much less pathfinding of an event to another event. The only example I can recall off hand is in Pokemon: The Evil Inside 2 where in the 1st mission you have a partner, but other than that I don't recall any games.

I figured it'd be complicated, but I also figured I'd ask just in case.

I don't mind the turn-based system, but I do like the action battle system better.

A 'solution' could be provided in Ahriman's Prophecy, where instead of 2 characters at the same time on the screen, you as character 1 attack, and then you're switched to character 2. It's not quite the same, but I recall finding soome pathfinding tutorial on rpgmaker.net. Though it's very complex amd ot'd be easier to do something like this on the later RMs, since you could probably find a script for that sort of thing.

That would work, too. I suppose I can just do something simpler on this one, and someday graduate to a later RM.

I had this program years ago and got it when it was on sale. I'll probably get a later one when they go on sale as well.

I would suggest gamemaker if you want an action battle system, it's simply much better suited to handle all of that.

It is possible if you go turn by turn on each of them. If you mean a totally automatic IA partner... well, you need to work from scratch an IA to make it possible, and that means to make a map of all positions of interactions of your partner to attack another event, like looking X+Y on variables on each loop to know where they are and move in that manner.

But all in all, is better to skip RM2K and go to GM:Studi as suggested by prpl_mage.

It's possible, but you need a deep knowledge of programming skills.
