What do you use for custom music?
By luck and digging, I have figured out the basics of the engine, and have all I need to begin my creation, save for one important thing. Music
What do you use? What's the best software for it? Whats the best poorfig software?

The problem with midi files is that there aren't a lot of softwares out there for it. I tried one some 10 or so years ago and wasn't impressed (mostly because it confirmed that my musical talent is below average at best).
Luckily you can also use MP3s, although larger in file size and some issues with looping, so any software for that works.

No, like, what softwares do you use to CREATE the music?

Yeah that's what I answered.
I used something called Midi Maker back then but it didn't seem to be around anymore.

I use a music tracker, and export as wav before converting to mp3 in audacity.
I only know 2 music trackers that are open source : OpenMPT and MilkyTracker.

OpenMPT has more handy features (like directly exporting stuff to a specific format, and can import midi) but I got used to MilkyTracker already.
These aren't super easy to pick up, but there's enough documentation and a few tutorials around the internet.

I used PulseBoy to create retro game themes for a cartoon I animated a couple years ago. The creator requests that you credit them when using pulse boy for widely distributed tracks. Check it out at pulseboy.com.

Anvil Studio is my go to for creating MIDI themes for RPG 2k/3, although it's pretty old, (and can be kind of confusing if your new to this kinda thing). However it's free to download, and it's trial won't prevent you from saving your work unlike some other DAW's i've poked around with.

As for how to loop your MIDI format themes in it, here's a link. https://rpgmaker.net/articles/104/

Fl Studio for a fan game.
Mp3. Music arrange with soundfonts, vsts etc
If you can't make music, you can always do what I do; Commission out people to help make music.

Though it maybe tricky at first, you can always find hungry Chip-tune Musicians and other Midi/Wav/MP3 Artists out there. Chimeratio is one of mine... ;)
