RPG Maker 2003

RPG Maker 2003

Need HELP.... PLEASE...........
Hello, i have a question about RPG Maker 2003 Games. Some of the games i have tried recently have the problem, that when i start the game and want to start a new game. After selecting and enter start new game, the game crashes and it tells me: file main cannot be opened.
But in one of those games there is a saved file and this one works and doesnt crash the game.

does someone know how to fix the problem or how to get this file or so?

I think by friends, Anton and Caethyril, have more knowledge in this.

If I was to gander a quick guess, I would figure the problem is related possibly the version of RPGMaker 2k3 they were made in.

The newer versions have a recent patch to the system. See if that maybe the issue.

I haven't encountered this particular crash (Cherry would be a much better person to ask, obviously!), but like FalseSTOP!, I'd guess it's likely a version issue. Here are some ideas:
  1. Are you using the editor (i.e. RPG Maker 2003) to test-play the troublesome projects, or just playing them via the executable? If you're using the editor:
    • What version are you using, and
    • Does running the game directly from its executable fix the problem?

  2. Older/newer RM2k3 games use different versions of the RTP (common images & audio) that are largely incompatible, mostly due to different file names, so you may need to find & install the applicable version(s) to play the games you want. I believe you can get the current official RTP version here: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/download/additional/run-time-packages

  3. Could you give an example (preferably with a link) to an RM2k3 game with which you're having this problem?
If a saved game doesn't display the problem, maybe "main" is an image/audio resource used on the starting map but omitted for whatever reason from your download. Perhaps your antivirus locked or deleted the "main" file because it thought it looked suspicious. It could be many different things...

Hi, i play them via the executable. And i have installed all 4 different versions from that website: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/download/additional/run-time-packages
Plus i have installed the old Runtimepackage 1.0 from 2000.

And the games i downloaded here: can only run 1 and 6. the others have all these problems. The names are Die letzte Schlacht der Elfen 1-7
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYdvhGdOHAc

And i have already pasted a few files into some of the games which were missing. Like i pasted vehicle and Monster 2 in some of them. Then i got at the least to the title screen but not further because of the file main issue.

Thanks for the fast answer.

DlSdE was made with the old unofficial version. You would have to google for the old RM2k3 RTP then, I guess...
