(As a disclaimer, I have to tell you that I am friends with the developers of this game, and spent time as a volunteer proof-reader for the English in the game. However, I did pay full price for my copy of the game, and feel that my reasons below are solid and make sense based on my idea of what a good game is.)
- My belief is that the game will take you a minimum of 10 hours to complete. Your results will likely vary depending on how you play point and click adventure games (which is what this game is), and how experienced you are at solving puzzles in such games. But, in my opinion, at a minimum, at a price of $14.99, this is entertainment that only costs about $1.50 per hour.
- As I indicated earlier, this is a point and click adventure game. It is not a shooter, or a role playing game, or a platforming game (although the short “mini-games” that separate the five chapters from each other might be considered platformers to a degree). You didn’t say what type of games you like to play, so I can’t say for sure that you will like the game. Point and click adventure games are my favorite genre, so automatically any such game is worth more to me than any of the other types of games.
- This game is very story driven. In my opinion, playing story driven games require a much different mindset that playing shooters or platformers. In my opinion, the enjoyment of this game is taking your time while playing, reading the dialog between characters, and absorbing what is going on in the game. You may or may not enjoy playing your games this way. If you do enjoy playing like this, this game is for you in my opinion. If not, then perhaps you won’t enjoy it as much as I do.
- The music and sound effects in this game are wonderful and add greatly to the ambiance while playing. So are the art and animation effects built into the game. In my opinion, it is abundantly clear that the developers of the game worked extremely hard on this game, and I believe that the results clearly show this. I feel that paying full price rewards this in a small way.
- Paying full price for a game encourages the game developers to make more games. I definitely want these developers to make more games for me to play, so I pay full price. I know you haven’t played yet, so you may not know if you want them to make more games.
I recommend you do two things before deciding whether to purchase the game:- Read some of the reviews here on STEAM to see what other gamers have said about the game, and
- Play the demo (also available here on STEAM). The demo contains most of the first chapter of the game and gives you a good idea about what the rest of the game will be like.
I don’t know if any of this has helped you or not. All of it is definitely my opinion. Yours may turn out to be different. But, yes this game is totally worth it
Layers of Fear is another good one you should look at it.
