Memorial Achievement

I'm having problems achieving the memorial achievement. In chapter 4 part 2 I light the candles on Fran's parents grave yet the achievement doesn't trigger. Any suggestions on how to get the achievement?

I'm sorry that you're having trouble unlocking the "Memorial" achievement in the game. You're not playing in Steam Offline mode while trying to unlock this achievement, are you?

I cannot reproduce your results of not unlocking this achievement. I just tested unlocking the achievement, and it worked for me, so I am unsure exactly what problem you may be having.

The "Memorial" achievement can be unlocked by using the matches to light the candles on the memorial near Fran's parents' graves. .

It can be done anytime during the time Fran is in the cemetery.

Here are two videos which document my unlocking the "Memorial" achievement. Neither of these videos have sound. Perhaps looking at these videos will give you a clue about what is different (if anything) about what you are doing compared to what I did.

If you are doing the same thing as shown in one of the videos, please post again. I am assuming that you have successfully unlocked other achievements in the game. Just so we're clear, achievements are NOT unlockable on Mac computers, and require additional configuration on Linux computers. But if you are playing on a Windows computer, as far as I can see, the "Memorial" achievement is unlockable right now.

Thank you for the reply. I however am not in offline mode when I attempt this achievement. So far I have tried it both ways that were shown in the videos you have linked. I was able to achieve all the achievements before the "Memorial" achievement. I run the game on Windows 10 as well. I know others have been able to attain this achievement, but I am stumped why it doesn't trigger for myself.

Two other thoughts come to mind which you can check:

1. The file "steam_api.dll" must be present and uncorrupted in the Fran Bow game folder in Steam for achievements to unlock. If somehow this file is missing or corrupted in the game's folder (default is c:\program files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fran Bow\), then achievements will not unlock. I suggest that you delete this file from the Fran Bow game folder and then "Verify Integrity of game cache" to replace that file. After verifying the integrity, please check the folder to ensure that the "steam_api.dll" file has been replaced in the game's folder. Instructions for "verifying integrity of game cache" may be found here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335. Note too, that after you "verify integrity of game cache", you should log off of the Steam client software, close it, and then reopen it and log into Steam again. Replacing the "steam_api.dll" file without logging out of Steam and back in may not allow you to unlock achievements.
   
   
2. Although I don't think this is necessary for achievements to unlock (I just tested and I believe I just unlocked an achievement without it being active and I still saw it "pop-up" as earned even though the "Steam Overlay" WAS deactivated), I suggest that you have the "Steam Overlay" active while trying to unlock achievements. There are checkboxes to activate and deactivate the "Steam Overlay". Here are some instructions for updating this setting for All Steam Games, as well as on an individual game by game basis: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9394-YOFV-0014.

Here is a general guidance document on the Steam Website which discusses Steam achievements and troubleshooting their unlocking: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4462-UIOB-0425. Within that guidance document, it is mentioned that intermittent internet connection issues may cause achievements not to be recorded if there is no internet connection while the action to earn the achievement is being done. I don't know if intermittent internet connection issues could be affecting you. I realize it might be unlikely to be intermittent internet connection issues since you have tried to unlock this achievement multiple times with no success.

I assume too that you have double-checked your Profile (which is Private) to ensure that you haven't earned the achievement and just did not see it "pop-up" on the "Steam Overlay" as it was earned

As I indicated previously, I just tested the "Memorial" achievement and was able to successfully unlock it, so I do not believe there is any global issue affecting that unlocking. I am sorry that I have no other ideas to offer you to troubleshoot the issue.

If you do find a solution, I would appreciate a post to explain how you solved it. Thanks.

Thank you again for the reply. I verified the integrety of the game after deleting that file. This fixed the problem I was having and was able to trigger the achievement.

Yay!! Thank you very much for the update. I'm glad the problem is solved. I'll remember to include the replacement of the "steam_api.dll" file earlier in the troubleshooting process for the next gamer having trouble unlocking achievements.
