I have a MacOS Catilina, which runs only 64-bit. I desperately love this game but its only in 32-bit so my computer can't run it. Can it please be upgraded to be compatible with 64?

Hello Kittycat13,

The developers at Killmonday Games ARE working on a port of the game to a new game engine which will allow the game to be published for MacOS Catalina. This is not trivial to do however, and as of now, there is no expected date for the new version of Fran Bow to be published. We will announce here in the Steam forums when the new version is published and current owners of the game WILL automatically be upgraded to the new version at that time.

There are ways to run the current version of the Fran Bow game on a computer running MacOS Catalina. Here is a link to a Steam page which gives the two methods for doing this: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1055-ISJM-8568. The information on how exactly to run the game under MacOS Catalina is at the bottom of this web link. This process is not trivial either however, and I understand that you may not be interested in doing this.

From your initial post, it sounds like you have already played the game on your computer, but perhaps recently upgraded it to MacOS Catalina which would have removed your ability to play the game there. But if I misunderstood your situation and you have just purchased the game within the last 14 days, you may still qualify for a refund using these guidelines: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6695-QIKM-7966

Thanks for your kind words about the Fran Bow game despite your inability to play the game on your Mac computer running MacOS Catalina. Killmonday Games appreciates your support.

os catalina unable to run 32-bit games!
hello! i was wondering if anyone has recommendations on how to play this game without another computer or having to heavily alter the computer I'm using after OS catalina stopped running 32-bit programs. will this title ever be updated to run 64-bit? thanks!

Hello Scooby8593,

I've moved your post into this thread which earlier covered this topic. Please review my earlier post in this thread which has the most up to date information available. Killmonday Games is still working on the new version of the game, but they have not yet announced when it will be ready.

As for playing the current version of the game on your MacOS Catalina computer, the only way to do this is by following the guidance referred to here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1055-ISJM-8568. As far as I know, these methods are the only way to play the current version of Fran Bow on your updated MacOS. You'll need to be the judge of whether they meet your requirement of not heavily altering your computer.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Hello Karamilka_Candy,

Killmonday Games Studio is still working on the new version of the Fran Bow game which will run on 64-bit MacOS Catalina. There is still no estimate about when this version of the game will be ready.

I have moved your post into the thread which contains the most up-to-date information on this topic. You may want to look at my first post in this thread for the full explanation I gave earlier. This information has not changed.

Thanks for your support of the Fran Bow game. I'm sorry for your inconvenience.

Hi Brian, is there any update on this project? The Fran Bow social media seems to have stopped being updated mid-2020, so should we assume a 64bit release has been abandoned? Many thanks!

Hello GrunnersMac,

The port of the original Fran Bow game is far from abandoned. It is actively being worked on now, but is still in progress with a lot of programming and testing to be done. The latest information on the port on this Steam forum is from November 2020 and is located here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/362680/discussions/0/1734343428031219153/#c2993165479019813531.

There are many reasons for the port to the new engine, as described in the forum post documented at the link above. This includes allowing Mac users running MacOS Catalina (64-bit) to enjoy the game again (one of the "other improvements to the game" mentioned in that post), and we still expect the new port of the game to allow that.

As for when the new port will be available, the latest social media post discussing this is on the Killmonday Games Twitter feed which is documented in the link posted above. Killmonday Games' best estimate for when the port will be available is sometime in 2021. The tweet from Killmonday Games about the 2021 date was in response to a question about when the port of the Fran Bow game would be available (that tweet with the original question has since been deleted). We still believe that the port will happen sometime in 2021, and will let you know if that date must slip due to unforeseen circumstances.

I hope this answers your question, GrunnersMac.

Thanks Brian. I'd bought the game recently on sale without realising it was 32bit, but in light of what you say here will keep it and look forward to the day I can play it! Keep up the good work!

Hello again,
Just so we're clear, there ARE ways to run the current version of Fran Bow on your 64-bit MacOS, but it takes some configuration that you may be unable or unwilling to do. The Steam store page for this game (and all the 32-bit only MacOS games) has a link to a Steam page which describes the process. That link is also here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1055-ISJM-8568. The last two bullet points at that link describe methods that are still available to MacOS users who are currently using MacOS Catalina or higher.

My apologies for "old news" if you're already aware of these.

Thanks for your support of Killmonday Games and for your patience waiting for a native 64-bit version of Fran Bow running on MacOS.

I have a new 2021 iMac running Big Sur. Will this work on it once you upgrade this game? I want to finish playing it.

Hello duckwerks,

Yes, the 64-bit version of the Fran Bow game will play on Mac computers running MacOS Big Sur, and MacOS Catalina (as well as any future 64-bit releases of MacOS).

This version is still being worked on, and a 2021 release is still planned. You should be able to finish your playthrough of Fran Bow sometime this year.
