HELP!
Hey, I started playing the game "Fran Bow" yesterday. It saves automatically. Now I wanted to play it again and saw when I opened Steam that game is uninstalled. So I installed it again and when I opened the game, it was all gone. Can anybody help me?
It can not just delete itself!
Have that at 2 games.

Hello Eileen,

I'm sorry that you had some trouble with the Fran Bow game. Occasionally, a gamer will report that they have lost their game progress, and ask how it can be restored. But yours is the first report I've seen that says both the game progress and the game files themselves are gone and Steam reports that the game is not installed. I have no explanation for either of those two events for sure, but it is not usual.

You fixed the "game uninstalled" issue by reinstalling the game. As for restoring your game progress, that can't be done without replacing the save game file that keeps track of your gameplay progress. If the game doesn't go back to where you left off in gameplay when you select the "Continue" menu pick on the games's Main Menu when you start up the game, then that progress is lost and not recoverable through automated means because the game does not support cloud saving. And if selecting the "Continue" menu pick just takes you back to that same Main Menu, then that locally stored save game file has been removed or otherwise corrupted. But the location of the game's files, and the location of the save game file are two completely different locations on all platforms (Windows, Mac, and Linux), so uninstalling the game using the Steam "uninstall game" options does not automatically remove that save game file, and the opposite is true as well. So two things had to go wrong at about the same time for both to be gone.

I offer you the same "deal" I offer anyone who posts here: a manually created save game file which will allow you to resume gameplay at approximately the same place you left off before the game progress was lost, and with approximately the same inventory items.

But this depends on your replying to this post and telling me which Chapter you were last playing, what puzzles you had solved in that chapter, what puzzle you were last working on, and what items you had in inventory when you last played before you lost your game progress.

The more accurate this reply is, the closer I can get you back to where you left off. Depending on which chapter you were playing, I may be able to determine which puzzles you had already solved in order to be working on the last one you were working on, but often puzzles in the game don't have to be solved in a specific order, so this isn't always possible.

In the past, I could see which achievements you have already unlocked in the game by looking at your Steam profile. Alas, this isn't possible anymore, unless you opened your Steam profile to Public viewing. So if you tell me which achievement you last unlocked, this gives me a general (but not totally up-to-date) impression of where you are in gameplay.

At the very least, if you tell me what Chapter you were playing in, I can open up the "Chapters" menu so you "resume" gameplay at the beginning of whichever Chapter you were last playing. This will lessen the time it takes to reach where you left off in your gameplay, but still will require replaying certain sections of the game again.

While this save game file will solve your immediate problem by getting you back to approximately where you left off, it will not prevent the problem from happening again, if the problem that caused it to happen in the first place is not fixed. Answering that is beyond the scope of this reply.

In the meantime, if you do want this manually prepared save game file, please reply to this post with the information requested, and I'll build the file for you and provide instructions for where to copy it on your computer.

The location where you copy the save game file is different depending on whether you're playing on a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer. If you tell me in your reply post which one you're using to play the game, I can tailor those instructions to show only that operating system.

Sorry for the inconvenience you had in playing the game, Eileen.

Imo it must be either:

- you uninstalled it by accident, e.g. missclicked "uninstall" button somehow (or brother/sister did etc)

- your computer/OS is broken and deleated files (unlikely imo)

- bug in Steam - unlikelly, but why not ask Steam support about this

or potentially

- it was installed while on the red-pills, and isn't installed in real world :P
